The individual will report to Director, Taxation with the following primary responsibilities. 

Manage all aspects of Corporate Income Tax in Canada including timely and accurate compliance with tax laws for Canadian entities in collaboration with internal teams and external consultants. Provide high value–added tax advice/consulting to business partners on current and proposed transactions, including  tax research to determine strategic and appropriate tax positions. ·    Lead tax audits efficiently in accordance with local laws; strategically managing requests, and communication with external auditors and internal teams. ·    Identify, research, document and communicate the impact of local and global tax law changes on a timely basis to ensure operational readiness and support execution. ·    Perform tax research to assist in determining appropriate filing and accounting positions and prepare technical memos with recommendations. ·    Assist with implementation of tax planning initiatives affecting Canada. ·    Review of annual tax return filings including co-ordination with internal teams and external consultants. ·     Assessment of Uncertain Tax Positions and identifying any income tax risks and communicate on a timely basis. ·     Continuous review of current tax processes and identification of efficiencies through technology or process     improvements. ·     Identifying and communicating operational and other risks to the company. ·     Developing/executing strategies to improve overall tax efficiency for the Company. ·     Review of annual tax provision/disclosures and financial reporting deliverables for tax under IFRS reporting. ·     Experience in Transfer Pricing is an asset.

Qualifications:

·     Minimum of 5 years in public accounting/industry with thorough knowledge of Canadian Federal Tax Law, particularly   federal taxation of corporations and financial institutions. ·     CPA or Master of Taxation and/or completion of Part 1 and 2 of CICA In-depth tax course is an asset. ·     Solid understanding of Canadian IFRS as it pertains to tax accounting as well as a strong knowledge of Sarbanes-   Oxley requirements. ·     Proven analytical skills with the ability to assess information and apply tax principles to determine tax impact and       propose tax treatment. ·     Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly and effectively   to colleagues, senior management, and other individuals within the American Express group. ·     Strong influencing and negotiating skills to effectively manage relationships with business partners. ·     Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and prioritize to meet all deadlines. ·     Excellent computer skills including expertise with Microsoft Excel and base understanding of Tax preparation software. ·     Oracle experience is an asset.
