Teacher's Aide

POSITION SUMMARY

Reports To: Teacher, Program Coordinator, Unit Director

Supervises: N/A

Trainings: Annual, QPR


Position Summary: The Teacher’s Aide participates in learning activities under the supervision and guidance of the Teacher. The Teacher’s Aide conducts planned activities with the children in a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes child learning, self-awareness, independence and self-confidence. Through the application of a consistent and positive approach, the Teacher’s Aide assists children in controlling inappropriate behaviors and encourages the development of appropriate social skills. Through collaboration with the other members of the team, the Teacher’s Aide works to achieve the program’s goals. The Teacher’s Aide plays an active role in communicating with the Teacher to provide information and to offer suggestions about the child’s health, behavior and learning development. By maintaining effective communication with parents, the Teacher’s Aide provides a high level of customer service that supports the program goals. This position also assists with the food program. The Teacher’s Aide assists the Teacher with recreational activities that support the program goals. This staff member also demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to any age/disability group assigned. The individual is proficient in the knowledge and skills described in the core competency curriculum for each assigned age/disability group.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates in program activities under the supervision of the Teacher, Program Coordinator or Director.

• Promotes a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes child learning, self-awareness, growing independence and self-confidence as evidence by feedback from clients, families and Advisory Board.

• Provides appropriate interventions to assist children in controlling impulsive behaviors and to encourage the development of appropriate social skills.

• Works effectively and cooperatively with other team members.

• Communicates with the Teacher to provide information and offer suggestions about children’s health, behavior and development.

• Demonstrates consistent and effective customer service skills which support program goals.

• Assists in the meal program.

• Assists the Teacher in preparing lesson plans and with providing required materials for learning activities.

• Demonstrates adequate knowledge base about age and disability group served as determined by education, training, observation, supervision, etc..

• Is judged competent in skills with age and disability groups served. Skill competence is determined by chart reviews, observation and supervision.



Minimal Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED – some preferred
Experience: Excellent interpersonal and customer satisfaction skills. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team. Experience with school age population or early child care.


Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Undergraduate credits in Elementary Education
Experience: One (1) year experience in related program.



Requirements:
Blood borne pathogen training required.
