The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We are looking for a Teacher who will be responsible for supervising a given group of children in cooperation with the Assistant Teacher and any volunteers assigned to the classroom. The successful applicant will have the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and a sound educational program; to be articulate, pleasant, and resourceful.

This position is available at Petrides - Staten Island 

2:00 to 6:00 P.M.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

Supervising a given group of children in cooperation with the Assistant Teacher: Implementing a program consistent with the philosophy of care for children who take into account the social, emotional, intellectual, and health needs of the group and of the individual child. Planning daily educational classroom activities (including Lesson Plans) in cooperation with the Assistant Teacher. Supervising the Assistant Teacher and any volunteers assigned to the classroom Cooperating with the Assistant Teacher and Educational Director in developing and maintaining a sound working relationship with parents To share with relevant staff members pertinent information obtained through contact with parents. To share appropriate information with parents about their children. Attend and participate in parents' group meetings. Developing and maintaining a sound working relationship with other staff members. Attending and participating in group conferences and workshop opportunities to further his/her professional growth. Keeping, using, and sharing with appropriate staff members such records as necessary for the effective administration of the center, the development of programs, and working with individual children and groups. Participating in supervisory conferences with the educational staff to bring material and use the conferences as a source of information and professional guidance. Learning the resources of the community and of the agency, and cooperating with educational staff in using these to develop the group program Working within the framework of the agency and carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures, e.g.; observing the schedules in the Center and complying with established personnel policies and practices.
