(2) Must have or the ability or desire to obtain the appropriate NYS Teacher Assistant Credentials/certification to move into a Teacher Assistant position. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: May assist in classroom with, teaching materials development, bus duty, educational activities, required reports and special duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or immediate supervisor. May assist in the classroom under the direction of the teacher by assisting students individually and in small groups with homework, projects, etc. May assist students with physical day-to-day activities including lifting multiply handicapped students to and from wheelchairs, toileting and changing diapers. Assist in behavior management (as prescribed for each student) and discussion problems or changes with classroom teacher. Assists students with cafeteria and bus duty activities. Assists in the preparation of teaching materials, which may include but is not limited to copying, gathering information, word processing, collating, pasting, bulletin boards and cutting materials. Assists Teacher to ensure that school and safety rules are followed by students in and out of the classroom. Accompanies students to Speech, Music, Art, Physical Education, and other activities or unique events that occur outside the classroom. Intercedes in emergency situations as needed and necessary.
