Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Classroom Teacher Assistant is to work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning. They partner with teachers to establish a classroom environment that will assure success for all. This position also performs a variety of instructional and classroom management supports, as well as, necessary clerical tasks to support teachers. Teacher assistants work collaboratively with teachers, students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and school community members to support the mission of Niner University Elementary in Charlotte, NC.
+ Assists teachers with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing necessary materials.
+ Supports and reinforces learning by working with students individually or in small groups to help them master identified skills/concepts.
+ Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
+ Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
+ Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
+ Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
+ Monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem; assists students with becoming increasingly independent.
+ Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom.
+ Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.
+ Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.
+ Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom; performs repair and maintenance tasks related to school equipment.
+ Performs various clerical duties as needed, maintains records of student progress; develops and files incident reports; grades student papers and scores tests; makes copies; develops classroom display and instructional materials; maintains and operates audiovisual equipment; maintains class files, etc.
+ Participates in staff development workshops.
+ Perform any other duties as assigned by the Administration.
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ High school diploma.
+ Minimum of 48 hours of college-level coursework.
+ knowledge of daily routines of the classroom.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Associate degree with a concentration in Education
+ 2+ years of experience working with elementary-age children
+ Experience working with at-risk populations
