For over 100 years, HeartShare has dedicated itself to improving the lives of people needing special services and support. The HeartShare team, now 2,100 employees and growing, helps individuals develop to their fullest potential and lead meaningful and enriched lives.
Heart Share Human Services of New York has four preschools and a school located in Brooklyn and Queens focused on maximizing the potential of every student no matter the learning disability. Through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis and TEACH along with the New York State Common Core curriculum each student is provided with an education experience geared towards their needs. The Heart Share School also provides different therapies and physical education courses geared to what the students want and need. The Heart Share School is also a family and community that strive to help each other out with a common goal of helping the children succeed. These are necessary steps to create the impact we are looking for which is provided them the keys to succeed on their own in the future. The HeartShare School operates as a 12-month program.
A Certified Teacher’s Assistant is the backbone to any classroom within The HeartShare School. Certified Teacher Assistants report to the Educational Director and works with the Special Education Teacher to ensure that every classroom is stable and that every child is provided with instructional service needed to advance their academic career. Some of the duties the Certified Teacher Assistant has includes:
Understand and support educational goals for children. Collaborate with the teacher on lesson plans, classroom management, and student progress. Actively engage and interact with children during the learning process. Verbally guide and stimulate conversations to enhance learning. Model appropriate language and behavior. Participate in all daily activities, including Group Meetings, Gym, and instructional sessions. Work with students individually and in groups on instructional activities. Assist the classroom teacher with instructional and care-related tasks. Participate in school-wide meetings and staff development activities. Collaborate with the HeartShare Team. Implement emergency interventions as trained. Maintain cleanliness of classroom items and spaces. Ensure the classroom is tidy throughout and at the end of the day. Assist with toileting needs of children. Check children’s book bags daily upon arrival. Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times. Escort children to and from the bus. Monitor children’s whereabouts, especially during therapy sessions.Benefits
