BASIC PURPOSE

This position is responsible for assisting the Early Care and Education Program Master Teachers with set- up and implementation of a safe and developmentally appropriate early care and education program in accordance with community care licensing requirements, program funding terms and conditions and the philosophy of The Salvation Army Early Care and Education Program.  The Teacher provides support to the Master Teachers in all activities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Ensure that children are safe and under appropriate supervision at all times while supporting children’s play and learning. Plan, implement, monitor and assess a developmentally appropriate and inclusive curriculum and weekly lesson plan that correlates with the California Preschool Learning Foundations and the Desired Results System. Keep necessary notes, evidence and portfolios for each individual child to support the Desired Results Assessment Tool and, based on the evidence collected, adjust the curriculum and environment to ensure the success of each individual child in the areas of academic, social, emotional, and motor Responsible to ensure all required classroom records are maintained properly, meeting deadlines, including: attendance, meal counts, assessments and Desired Results Summary of Findings. Ensure classroom standard of cleanliness is kept at a high level including, but not limited to, disinfecting and emptying garbage. Foster a positive, non-punitive learning environment by treating each child with dignity and respect. Actively participate in on-going professional development, staff meetings and trainings to keep current on trends and research relating to early childhood education and to apply this knowledge in planning and implementing the early care and education program. Obtain 105 hours of professional growth experience within five years, to meet professional growth plan required by credentialing. Establish effective partnerships with parents/caregivers by supporting their role as their child’s “best first teacher”. Communicate and respond in a manner that demonstrates respect and concern and regularly communicate regarding the goals and objectives of the program and their child’s Cooperate with other professional members in assessing and assisting to solve children’s health, emotional, social and learning

 

 

Collaborate and maintain on-going positive communication with all staff, volunteers, and substitutes to provide an effective program to better meet the needs of the children. Maintain confidentiality concerning children and families and all records and files concerning them as well as maintaining confidentiality concerning all staff Maintain a positive and professional image at all times. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS Education Requirements Meet State of California Licensing Requirements (State Matrix, Title 5 and Title 22) at least and AA diploma in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related education field; 2years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field. Possession of a valid Child Development Teacher Permit authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must pass Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearances and The Salvation Army background Must submit a Health Screening Report and immunization record as required. Must submit a recent negative TB test. Must be certified in EMSA First Aid, CPR, and AED, or willing to take Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle is preferred, which includes, but is not limited to: Must be 21 years or older. Must pass pre-testing and random drug testing as per Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training. Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to DMV pull list for driving

 

Skills Must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of child development with a focus on the developmental stages and needs of children 3 to 5 years of age. Must demonstrate knowledge of the Preschool Learning Foundations, Desired Results Systems, Title 5 and Title 22 Community Care Licensing and Regulations, Developmentally Appropriate Early Childhood Practice. Must have knowledge of the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity towards working with a culturally diverse child and family Must possess good people skills and the ability to interact positively with children, families, and Must possess the creativity, flexibility, self-motivation and organizational skills to create a stimulating learning environment that nurtures the individual development of the whole child. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbal and written, while providing a positive model for English language development. Must be proficient in basic computer skills and have the ability to learn additional computer

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to physically interact with children including reaching, stooping, kneeling, handling objects and moving or lifting objects up to 40 pounds.
