Overview ***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** The Substitute Teacher is responsible for implementing the school’s instructional program for Grades K through 12 in the absence of the classroom teacher. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for implementing the school’s instructional program for Grades K through 12. Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning while teaching assigned subject or class according to adopted curricula and standards. Follows daily lesson plan provided by classroom teacher, following curriculum guidelines and adopted standards; prepares necessary materials; implements plan. Maintains student discipline and fosters positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Utilizes motivational tools and information technology to stimulate students. Maintains communication concerning individual progress with parents and school administration. Corrects assignments and evaluates student progress in timely fashion, if required. Instruction in the classroom will be commensurate with the school’s stated philosophy, objectives and purposes. Cognizant of all rules and regulations in school handbooks. Performs other duties as assigned. Human relation skills of the highest order are required to meet the needs of a diverse population. Requires initiative, perception and a broad knowledge of human behavior to understand the learning style of the individual students. Requires general knowledge and understanding of computers and software used in the school and/or ability to learn quickly. Understands safety requirements for students using online services. Position requires moderate lifting and bending. Required to monitor students indoors and sometimes outdoors in a hot and humid climate. Ability to keep up with children ages 5-12 years of age on a playground. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience working in a school system. High school diploma or GED Required. Post secondary coursework highly desired Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a substitute teacher or classroom aide is preferred Post secondary education experience is preferred, BA or BS desired but not required. Skills: Human relation skills of the highest order are required to meet the needs of a diverse population. Requires initiative, perception and a broad knowledge of human behavior to understand the learning style of the individual students. Requires solid pedagogy in educational planning, instructional delivery, classroom management, and assessment. Requires general knowledge and understanding of computers and software used in the school and/or ability to learn quickly. Understands safety requirements for students using online services. Ability to keep up with children ages 5-12 years of age on a playground. Working Conditions: Required to monitor students indoors and sometimes outdoors in a hot and humid climate. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Physical Requirements: Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
