Summary: A Teacher Assistant supports the transdisciplinary team and assists with instruction under the supervision of the classroom teacher. A Teacher Assistant must accept assignments and/or classroom placement, as determined by program needs and may be required to travel to satellite locations. They must perform duties within and outside the classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: A Teacher Assistant must be able to consistently and successfully perform the essential functions of the position as outlined in the classroom standards manual.
1. Assist in instruction and fulfillment of IEP mandates
2. Implement established behavior plan(s)
3. Ability to assume teacher responsibilities
4. Assist teacher to implement and monitor individual lesson plans.
5. Assist in conducting classroom activities that enhance opportunity to develop skills in areas of need
6. Assist with routine classroom functions
7. Assist with home-school communication
8. Assist with all required paperwork to be completed
9. Maintain strict confidentiality
10. Perform any other duties as requested by your supervisor
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: NYS Teaching Assistant Certificate or Valid NYS Teacher Certificate in any field preferred. Fingerprint clearance through Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) required for positions working with preschool population.
