Teaching Assistant-CTE, Special and Alternative Education
We are seeking motivated and skilled Teaching Assistants to join our Career & Technical Education, Special Education and Alternative Education programs. Ideal candidates will assist Teachers/Instructors in delivering comprehensive educational experiences, support hands-on lab/shop and classroom instruction, and help students develop skills necessary for careers in various trades. Prior experience in trades such as agriculture, construction, automotive, welding, electrical, or similar fields is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities: + Classroom Support: + Assist the instructor with lesson planning, material preparation, and classroom setup. + Support classroom management and facilitate a positive learning environment. + Provide individual or small group assistance to students during instructional activities. + Lab and Workshop Assistance: + Assist in the setup, maintenance, and organization of lab and workshop areas. + Supervise students during hands-on activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. + Support the instructor in conducting demonstrations and practical exercises. + Administrative Support: + Maintain accurate records of student attendance. + Assist in preparing instructional materials such as worksheets, handouts, and presentations. + Help organize and manage an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies. + Student Support: + Provide academic support for all students. + Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. + Mentor students and encourage their development of skills in the trades. + Program Enhancement: + Collaborate with the instructor to develop and improve the curriculum. + Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends and educational practices. + Assist in promoting the program through events, presentations, and community outreach. Job Qualifications NYS Teacher’s Assistant Certification - level 1, 2, or 3 (or ability & willingness to obtain) Education: preferred: Associate’s or Advanced degree in specified trades area, education, or a related field. Experience: Previous experience in the specified field, as well as industry-specific certifications are highly desirable. Experience working with high school students is a plus. Skills: + Strong knowledge of trade-specific principles and practices. + Excellent organizational and communication skills. + Ability to work collaboratively with instructors, students, and staff. + Proficiency in using educational technology and software. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Physical Requirements: + Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. + Comfortable working in various environments, including classrooms, labs, and outdoor settings. + Ability to stand, walk, and participate in physical activities for extended periods. + Fingerprint clearance required.
