Teaching Assistant Professor Position in Morphosyntax

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Linguistics invites applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor (appointment stream), specializing in corpus approaches to morphology and/or syntax, beginning Fall 2025 (note that Fall Term classes begin on or after August 25, 2025).

Essential qualifications include:

• PhD in linguistics or applied linguistics by the time of appointment

• Ability to teach one or more of the following courses: morphology, syntax

• Ability to teach one or more of the following courses: corpus linguistics, data science, field methods, typology, endangered languages

• Focus on non-English language(s)

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching in higher education

• Evidence of a critical perspective in teaching and research

• Expertise in the core area of morphology and/or syntax

• Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students

Preferred qualifications -- applicants with one or more of the following will be ranked more highly:

• Research interests, evidenced by a record of publications featuring a focus on morphology and/or syntax via corpus approaches

• Expertise with data-intensive and quantitative methods

• Focus on non-Indo-European language(s), low-resource languages, and/or cross-linguistic approaches

• Experience with linguistic fieldwork

• Experience with involvement in partnerships outside of academia (e.g., industry or non-profit sectors)

• Experience integrating undergraduate students into research collaborations
