Team Leader, Manufacturing (2nd Shift)
**Work Schedule** Second Shift (Afternoons) **Environmental Conditions** Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc... allowed, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.) **Job Description** **Position: Team Leader, Manufacturing (2nd Shift)** **Hours: 2nd shift | 2-10:30pm Monday - Friday** **Location: Hillsboro, OR** The 2nd Shift Team Lead of Manufacturing is responsible for leading a team of hourly colleagues within a test and assembly manufacturing environment. The primary responsibilities include day-to-day oversight of departmental goals for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity and Employee Development. Additional duties include maintaining and repairing specialized equipment to established parameters and specifications. This position collaborates with the entire manufacturing team. Thermo Fisher offers a sign-on bonus, competitive benefits like Medical, Dental, Vision, generous tuition assistance, Paid Time Off, 401K, plus employee Stock Ownership Program for all full-time employees! **What will you do?** + Staffing: time-card administration, and OT Management, PTO and tracking overall attendance + Employee Development: Individual Development Plans, Providing Coaching and Training + Performance Management: updates weekly, daily/hourly production metrics and facilitates regular team meetings + Facilitating team participation + Resolving production problems + Conducting performance evaluations + Giving and receiving employee feedback + Feedback – Provides written end of shift performance updates to Production Supervisor + Oversee continuous improvement (PPI) initiatives/activities within the department + Lead, participate, or support meetings; monitor project progress, report on important data + Analyze procedures and production methods to improve quality, costs and/or productivity + Conduct regular audits/GEMBA walks & implement improvements identified + Define & drive safety initiatives + Oversee & drive 6S program in areas of ownership + First line of response for Manufacturing Team when they face equipment failure + Identify and solve issues with circuit boards, cabling, and vacuum pumps + Conduct routine preventative maintenance on sophisticated electronics + Monitor equipment uptime using Key Performance Indicators and preemptively plan/schedule equipment repairs + Install and qualify new Scanning Electron Microscope capital test equipment on an as needed basis **A day in the life:** Thermo Fisher Scientific Hillsboro campus is on the cutting edge of global technology in pursuit of enabling our customers to make the world a Healthier, Cleaner and Safer place: + Employee accomplishments and career achievements are acknowledged via our APPRECIATE program + Daily Team Meetings held to address barriers to production and to highlight employee wins + Employees are actively involved with exciting new and emerging products + All feedback is considered valuable and is collected via our Just Do It task program + Training is routinely provided either as On the Job or via our Thermo Fisher University online portal **How will you get here?** **Education** + High school diploma or equivalent required + A 2-year associate degree in a technical field like Electronic Engineering Technology, Microelectronics or Mechatronics highly preferred + 2+ years of experience operating a Scanning Electron Microscope, troubleshooting and electronic equipment repair OR a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills + Military Technical Training in lieu of a technical degree may also be considered **Preferred Experience** + Experience with low volume, highly complex manufacturing processes + Demonstrated ability in successfully leading a team of colleagues + 5+ years of manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role + At least 2 years of validated experience in a job-related industry with proficiency in operating Scanning Electron Microscopes & Mechanical and Electrical complex high-tech equipment repair + Experience working in the field of Electronics and proficiency in Ultra High Vacuum strongly preferred + Experience with troubleshooting Scanning Electron Microscopes down to the component level + Experience in lean manufacturing, 6S and continuous improvement a plus + Experience with Windows-based and MS Office programs a plus (Word, Excel, Outlook and Access) **Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities** + Ability to lift up to 35lbs + Ability to use Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Soldering Irons, etc. + Knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopes, data acquisition, taking SEM images and measurements + Knowledge of Electronics Manufacturing, Equipment Repair, High Voltage, and Ultra High Vacuum + Ability to read work instructions and schematic drawings while performing basic troubleshooting of tools down to the component and software level + Ability to analyze and address problems independently as well as collaboratively + Ability to support projects, perform training and work efficiently as part of cohesive teams + Self-motivated, self-starter with strong interpersonal skills + Demonstrated skills in developing subordinates to their best potential. Team building, coaching, and mentoring skills.
