Strategic Advisers, LLC is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 25 years Strategic Advisers has specialized in the design, construction and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity’s investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With over $1 trillion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, the Strategic Advisers team of investment professionals constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for close to 3.5 million customer accounts.
Quantitative Research
SAI’s Quantitative Research analysts work on investment teams across the organization that focus on specific asset classes, products, central quantitative initiatives, and/or risk. The team consists of ~20 analysts located in Boston, Dublin, and Denver and partners with the broader SAI investment teams to deliver superior risk-adjusted performance for the wide range of investment offerings managed by SAI. The team’s work includes risk modeling, portfolio construction analysis, the creation of smart beta libraries/alpha models, investment strategy methodology, and implementation support.
The Position
You will conduct research as a team leader in the Strategic Advisers Quantitative Research team. You will contribute to the investment team’s successes by a combination of leadership, mentoring, and conducting thorough analyses that are based on solid quantitative methods.
Your primary area of focus will be on taxable investment research and methodology, particularly on portfolio construction and optimization in support of our developing unified managed accounts program. This work will also include support of asset class research teams and will involve prioritizing and coordinating efforts among a small, cross-disciplinary team of quantitative analysts.
You should enjoy working within a team environment and are expected to offer strong communication, programming, and analytical skills. You should be able to translate portfolio management requirements into quantitative projects and present the results in an investment-oriented and intuitive way.
Given SAI’s rapidly growing business, this role will evolve dynamically and requires an ambitious spirit. You will work at Fidelity’s headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts and will report to the managing director of quantitative research.
Responsibilities
Work within the Quantitative Research team to improve risk-adjusted performance and to help our clients to achieve their investment goals. Areas of potential specialization include the following:
Investment Research – Guide, develop, and execute research as a member of our investment team, including exposure, risk, and portfolio analyses for asset class researchMethodology and Implementation – Develop and apply methods that help bring our investment principles and research to our implementation platform, particularly involving tax-aware investing and portfolio constructionLeadership – Provide leadership in methodology, analysis, and project deliveryMentorship – Guide, mentor, and potentially manage investment professionals. Help to cultivate an environment that encourages inclusivity, innovation, and cross-team collaborationCommunication - Be able to clearly communicate and rationalize specific recommendationsCollaboration - Partner with the broader investment, portfolio engineering, and technology team to enhance our investment framework for managed account clients.Skills/Knowledge
