Technology Development Representative II – Southern Iowa and surrounding areas

 

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this role is to utilize your crop protection (CP) expertise in applied field research and agronomic science to provide technical leadership to help our commercial teams deliver customer outcomes within the target geography.

Key elements include:

 

APPLIED FIELD RESEARCH

• Actively partner with Crop Protection product teams to develop national protocols supporting product launches.

• Apply marketplace knowledge to facilitate the local technical team in the development of regional protocols.

• Apply recommendations from statisticians on trial design to meet protocol objectives and align with field testing capabilities.

• Use internal and external networks to identify and secure testing sites that meet protocol criteria.

• Apply scientific skills to collect, analyze, summarize, interpret data, and influence product positioning efficiently and accurately.

• Work cooperatively with academics and other key influencers on crop protection field trials.

 

TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP

• Assist sales and technical support personnel on crop protection product performance inquiries (PPI).

• Collaborate with R&D/agronomists/sales teams to test, deliver, position, and support our product pipeline.

• Identify new Market Opportunities and facilitate the development of Tailored Solutions for our customers.

• Partner with sales and agronomy to facilitate demonstrations, dealer, and customer training content.

• Address key technical issues (i.e., resistance management) with the team and key influencers.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER

• Facilitate and present Regional Research results to technical managers, agronomy, and sales teams.

• Facilitate regional marketplace positioning of crop protection, seed treatments, and seed and trait system products.

• Facilitate discussions with sales, product teams, R&D, and customer experience teams to create and deploy educational content on Bayer products and tailored solutions.

• Participate in efforts to coordinate, calendarize, and build content for internal sales training events designed to increase competence and confidence.

• Interface with external key influencers on Bayer products, recommendations, and local needs.

 

BRIDGE BETWEEN R&D AND COMMERCIAL TEAMS

• Local field testing, evaluation, product positioning, and tailored solutions development.

• Facilitate collaboration with key internal stakeholders (agronomists and R&D) and external cooperators (academics and consultants) to drive technology adoption.

• Increase awareness and gain public trust through 3rd party testing relationships.

• Provide technical expertise and support to regional U.S. Commercial business units.

• Facilitate networking at universities to identify new talent.

• Proactive utilization of research results from Professional Society journals to influence the business.

 

SAFETY & LOGISTICS

• Learn, apply, and comply with all safety standards and requirements and coach others.

• Effectively forecast/orders seed and crop protection products for successful execution of field research program.

• Collaborate/coordinate with Bayer personnel on planting, spraying, maintaining, and harvesting field trials.

• Effectively manage DOT compliance, trailer inspections as required.

• Initiate and manage the execution and maintenance of land and warehouse contracts.

• Hire, train, and supervise temporary personnel.

 

 

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE / STEWARDSHIP

• Learn and apply all regulatory and stewardship requirements in the field-testing program and coach others while ensuring our freedom to operate.

• Collaborate with Functional Compliance Lead (FCL) on both internal and external Confined Field Trial (CFT) audits.

• Adhere to company crop protection product stewardship requirements as necessary in field testing and training programs and drive awareness with internal and external stakeholders.

• Participate in Product Performance Inquiry Processes and assist when required.

• Coach external cooperators on potential Stewardship requirements of field trials.

 

ADDITIONAL

• Effectively steward company resources (equipment, budget, grant in aid, etc).

• Function independently or collaboratively as needed to plan, coordinate, and execute on field research trials.

• Work with a concentration on regional row crops such as peanut, cotton, corn, and soybean.  Also on regional specialty crops such as pecan, cucurbits, fruiting vegetables, onion, and blueberry.

 

Who you are:

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. degree in agronomy or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of experience in agronomy, sales, field development, or R&D related roles, or M.S. (5 years) or Ph.D. (2 years) in Agriculture or related discipline.

• Strong understanding of crop protection and a basic understanding of germplasm and traits in the assigned geography.  Expertise in one of the 3 crop protection disciplines – Weed Science, Insecticides and Fungicides.

• Make recommendations on agronomic components and systems.

• Strong technical and sales support skills (local influence).  

• Strong communication, collaboration, influencing, business acumen and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Obtain and maintain a pesticide applicator certification in the state(s) within the territory.

• Proficient in operating and maintaining small plot equipment including tractors, sprayers, hand-booms.

• The position entails driving a company vehicle. This may include being required to drive greater than 7,500 business miles annually. Additionally, the position requires driving for the company that falls under DOT/FMCA jurisdiction and may require a commercial driver's license. This may entail hauling trailers, product, supplies, or equipment in a safe manner.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree and/or Ph.D.

• Degree discipline in plant pathology with functional understanding of fungicides.

• Experience in peanut and fruit and vegetable markets.              

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $86,371.90-129,557.84. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors. This posting will be available for application until at least 10/31/2024.
