Job Summary

The Technology Lead Software Engineer delivers on our Purpose by joining the IDF Customer Experience and Ground Ops Analytics Team, supporting high-visibility projects that bring data to our cloud data warehouse platform. The data pipelines they create support Employees in Ground Operations and Customer Experience perform analytics and aid in decision-making as well as internal and external reporting. The Tech Lead Software Engineer is innovative, detail-oriented, and excited to develop solutions that drive the future of Southwest’s Technology. 

 

Additional details: 

This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for training, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is a limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington and Wyoming

Responsibilities

Provide accurate development estimates in support of feasibility assessments and planned development activitiesCreate, maintain, review and approve application designs in collaboration with Solution Architects and shared services Teams, ensuring alignment to the appropriate solution architectures and taking tradeoffs into accountDevelop, maintain, and review software with a focus on quality and maintainabilityDevelop, maintain, review, and execute unit, functional, and integration tests with a focus on automation and test-driven developmentProvide technical oversight for performance testing, ensuring plan and outcomes align to expected non-functional requirementsPlan and oversee application deployment activities and sequencing in non-production and production environmentsInvestigate new technologies that could improve the applications and development activitiesIdentify and resolve technical debt as appropriate, weighing the development effort against the value returnedMentor and coach Development Team on relevant architecture, design, development, and operations topicsEvaluate code to ensure that it is valid, is properly structured, meets industry standards, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systemsMay perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education

Required: High School Diploma or GEDRequired: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent formal training

Experience

Required: Expert level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in software engineeringPreferred: AWS Cloud ETL tools such as Glue, Athena, HUDI, CloudWatch, PySpark, Python, RedshiftPreferred: On-prem ETL tools such as AbInition and TeradataPreferred: JavaPreferred: Ability to lead a team of seasoned Cloud ETL Developers

Pay & Benefits

Competitive market salary from $151,400 per year to $168,200 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
