Responsibilities Position Summary: To assist in the direct care and management of children, adolescent and young adult residents (age 10 to 22 years) as prescribed by the physician and treatment team; to provide supervision, safety and crisis management for the resident population; to complete documentation of resident behavior and participation in programming; to adhere to the scheduled activities; role model positive, mature behavior; utilize positive behavioral strategies to minimize resident crisis and maximize success. Physical Demands: Must be able to: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds Stand, walk, kneel, and reach while working with residents for approximately 80-90% of the day Use the full range of body motion including handling and physically restraining residents when necessary Perform First Aid and CPR Key Responsibilities: Under direct supervision, assists in the implementation of the treatment plan for each resident, by completing monthly summary reports. Responds to crisis situations and manages resident behaviors in accordance with the Behavioral Management Program. Assists in providing safe delivery of care to meet the goals and objectives of each resident’s plan of care. Assists with the unit milieu to guide the development of acceptable habits and attitudes by consistently and fairly implementing the behavioral program, emphasizing good choices, and positive interactions. Completes documentation regarding resident supervision and participation in the program in a timely manner. Ensures all living and working areas are clean and sanitary for the residents and the next shift that comes in to work. Ensure all living areas and work areas meet standards of Virginia State Regulations at all times. Assists the teacher in providing instructions and training in classrooms. Attend and participate in all unit meetings and trainings. Consistently follows the program activity schedule and implements all safety and security procedures. Serve as a role model for residents. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge of principles of psychology and child growth and development are useful. Limit-setting, responding to children and adolescents in a caring, mature manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary. Must Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and units as consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job. Education: High school education required. Experience: Six months related experience with adolescents and children or related college coursework in a related field. Previous experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or developmental delays preferred.
