•Assist Transportation Technology Manager by providing direct guidance to and oversight and supervision of, the two onsite System Administrators.
•Assist Transportation Technology Manager with the management of all IT business aspects including software, hardware, licenses, security, documentation and training:
•Software : ensure that effective and efficient up to date applications are available and operational for performing the mission at the Public Safety Transportation Operations Center.
•Hardware: ensure that computing, display, data handling and networking equipment are optimally maintained and operated.
•Licenses: ensure that licenses, warranties, service contracts are current, timely renewed and or added/cancelled as needed.
•Security: ensure that all IT assets (equipment and networks) are monitored and secured both physically (inventory, periodic check, proper environmental condition, etc…) and virtually (firewall, virus protection, password, monitor use or lack of, etc..), assess vulnerabilities, develop/deploy mitigation measures, schedule/execute risk tests to evaluate and report on level of protection, recovery and continuity of operations.
•Documentation: ensure proper (redundant, accessible and current) filing/storing of licenses, warranties, service contracts, contacts numbers both emergency and otherwise, manuals, procedures, plans, diagrams. Maintain version/change control logs, track and report performance of systems, staff, initiatives and other activities within TSL purview.
•Training: coordinate software and hardware new/refresher training for users, new systems, modified processes. Coach, support, share information and transfer knowledge to System Administrators and other IT staff to improve performance and/or implementation of initiatives/projects.
•Ensure that trouble calls are acknowledged, analyzed, resolved promptly and thoroughly documented including root cause determination and lessons learned.
•Provide daily on site presence as lead IT systems and network support on routine and ad hoc activities including but not limited to trouble shooting, scheduled tests, answer questions, resolve simple issues, research solutions, attend/lead progress/milestone meetings and assist VDOT management with new technology projects and or initiatives.
•Manage technology, network, testing and deployment of software releases, upgrades, patches.
•Review and provide technical input on proposals, task orders, requirement documents, testing plans, solutions to fix/improve existing software/system or add new functionality.
•Research and organize resources and procedures for technology continuity of operations including performing failover system testing/exercises.
