Technical Artist Intern

Overview We are seeking a full-time Technical Artist Intern in our Olathe, KS or Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for learning to create and optimize high-fidelity content within the technical capabilities of hardware and software platforms to generate robust real-time and/or post-processed interactive products and features. Essential Functions Learn to innovate and rapidly prototype through regular collaboration with others Learn to work closely with designers, artists, and developers to deliver the vision within project requirements Learn to develop tools and methods that improve and facilitate the art and development team’s workflow Learn to utilize 3D game engines, 3D modeling software to contribute to product development Learn to help implement production pipelines Learn to regularly communicate technical constraints and their reasons to the dev/creative teams Learn to stay informed of technological developments and apply them Learn to drive optimization by setting standards, coordinating art and development teams, and utilizing profiling tools Learn to produce documentation on tools, methods, training, processes, and engine constraints for future reference and consultation Basic Qualifications Completed coursework in Computer Science, Game Development, Computer Graphics or related field Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Growing knowledge of 3D graphics principles and real-time modeling techniques (shaders, PBR, normal map, displacement etc.) Growing abilities in at least one major game engine (ex. Unity, Unreal Engine) and navigating their technical constraints on different platforms Growing abilities in shading, lighting and optimization Growing abilities with 3D modeling software, 2D editing software (Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, Photoshop, etc.) Knowledge of asset management systems (ex: Git, Perforce, VSS, Alienbrain) Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, C++, VEX, JavaScript and/or C# Must be able to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision Proven ability to demonstrate ownership of project requirements within cross functional teams Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work respectfully with others Desired Qualifications Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) Experience and passion with adjacent skills (ex. Modeling, Camera Systems, Environments, UI) Intrinsically motivated to make innovative products/designs; a creative tinkerer in your free time Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
