Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for directing the property accounting team, monthly close process, and tax compliance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to partner with senior management, middle management and staff to identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and overall team capabilities. He/she will be adept at operating in high-volume, deadline-driven environments and thrive in an entrepreneurial and rapidly evolving atmosphere.
Essential Functions:
Mentor and direct property accounting team
Manage the monthly accounting close process to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting across the Company
Manage accounting processes with offshore team to ensure quality and consistency across teams
Review budget to actual variance reports
Ensure sales tax is filed timely and accurately
Assist with the annual financial statement audits
Evaluate team workflows to propose and implement improvements in efficiencies and automation
Interface and work cross-functionally with other departments in the Company to attain Company goals and objectives
Performs special projects as directed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
CPA strongly preferred
10 or more years of related experience
Experience with Yardi
Strong accounting and financial reporting skill set
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong excel skills and a mind for data management
Real estate / residential / REIT experience is a plus
