TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, JACKS LAB (http://jacks-lab.mit.edu/) , Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research (multiple openings), to support an exciting team interested in the genetic events contributing to the development of cancer; provide basic technical support, under the direct supervision of postdoctoral researchers, for researchers and their projects by assisting in experimental animal model systems aimed at understanding genetic and molecular aberrations in cancer, conducting basic lab experiments under close supervision, performing prep work for experiments, conducting standard lab techniques, and supporting lab and/or research projects or protocols; support animal husbandry, PCR Âbased genotyping, and in vivo tumor imaging (bioluminescence and micro-computed tomography); prepare and analyze histopathological samples, cell culture, and flow cytometry; use DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and detection techniques; and provide general lab support and assistance with research experiments.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in biology, immunology, biochemistry, or related field; a minimum of two years of relevant lab experience, which may include experience gained as an undergraduate; working knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures; excellent problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; willingness to work with animals; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; self-motivation; comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers; commitment to exceeding quality standards, providing exceptional services, and producing accurate and high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and awareness of basic safety issues and how to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. PREFERRED: Experience with one or more of the following technical areas: mammalian tissue culture and standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning and PCR); and laboratory experience in mammalian cell culture, rodent husbandry, RT-qPCR, fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, western blotting, flow cytometry, and protein isolation.
