Our **Building Services Technical Centre** is dedicated to supporting our UK and iCRC(integrated Complementary Resource Centre)-based engineering / BIM (Business Information Modelling) delivery teams, to ensure they can foresee and eliminate an issue before it has the potential to jeopardise safety, programme, budget, quality, and most importantly, Client satisfaction. Through our Technical Centre, we provide tailored advice and continuously develop an efficient, dynamic and interactive knowledge sharing platform. This platform supports seamless access to best practices, actionable insights and expert guidance, helping teams to excel in their day-to-day design delivery workflows. We are currently recruiting for a Director/Technical Director to act as Technical Centre Leader. The role can be based in any of our UK offices, and applicants can be mechanically- or electrically-biased. The role is full-time. **A little more about your role…** As Technical Centre Leader, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our engineering team towards achieving technical excellence. The aim of your role will be to work with the Technical Centre Deputy Leader to: + Drive a Technical-Led culture throughout the Services discipline that prioritises innovation, expertise and decision making grounded in technical insights. + Be an integral part of the building services team’s day-to-day management, vision, values and leadership. + Work with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives in the team and across the wider business. + Become part of the wider WSP business by sharing knowledge and technical skills with colleagues from around the globe. + Develop roll out/staff engagement plans to help launch new initiatives and seek feedback/capture lessons learned to convert into action plans for continuous improvement. + Foster a culture of autonomy, encouraging team members to take initiative and contribute to the overall need for technical betterment **Collaborate and share** + Provide guidance and advice related to project technical issues. This may involve undertaking relevant research at short notice to meet project time constraints, to assist colleagues and clients in trouble-shooting technical issues. + Take part in project technical reviews and act as a Subject Matter Expert in areas of expertise. + Actively promote and support the WSP Practice Area Networks (PAN), including acting as a moderator where required. + Provide support to, but not lead, the WSP graduate training programme. + Chair the Discipline Technical Leadership Group for Building Services. **Manage** + Be responsible for technical knowledge management through the dedicated Building Services Technical Hub and by chairing knowledge sharing workshops. + Develop and maintain general guidance documents on current and emerging statutory requirements and standards, as well as design trends to inform WSP colleagues and to help clients understand key issues influencing our designs. + Provide training for colleagues as necessary, on technical issues, changes in statutory requirements, associated standards and design direction. + Manage and develop the WSP specification. + Develop and maintain the building services-specific Safety in Design Course for all building services colleagues. + Assist in the management and implementation of WSP safety, health, quality assurance and environment impact policies and procedures. + Provide software support for engineering colleagues and act as the point of contact for software choices and procurement for WSP’s in-house IT teams. **Innovate** + Research, prepare and collate project-specific guidance for staff and clients on developing or changing statutory requirements, standards, technologies and engineering approaches. + Identify gaps in our knowledge in the face of emerging technologies and practices, and define and execute initiatives to fill these gaps. + Drive the team forward with cutting-edge technical leadership. **Promote** + Act as an external ambassador for WSP, by participating in industry bodies such as CIBSE, IMechE, IET, BSRIA etc, and take part in the development of industry guidance. + Promote the advantages of professional registration. **Your team** + We make extraordinary efforts to attract, develop, engage and retain the best professionals in our industry because this is what makes us great. + You will work closely with like-minded individuals on exciting and challenging initiatives or projects. + Building Services consists of mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers along with our sustainability and BIM experts. + We put the highest ethical standards at the centre of all we do, and professionalism is inherent in our offering. + We are humble and act with moral and intellectual integrity, treat everyone with respect and embrace diversity. **What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…** + A track record in the technical elements of mechanical or electrical building design, from the concept design to construction stages. + An ability to collaborate with, and provide leadership to, a team of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) professionals located across the UK. + An ability to engage with clients, contractors and design team members in technical discussions. + An ability to communicate technical detail effectively and have organisational skills. + An understanding of BIM, Net Zero Carbon design, Building Technology and Building Performance.
