Technical Director

Position Purpose
Under general supervision, manages the theatre technology operations and building maintenance of the Plaza Theatre and coordinates the technical needs of Plaza Theatre events and rentals under the general direction of the Plaza Director.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
+ Oversees all technical aspects of the Plaza Theatre performances and programs.
+ Assists the Plaza Director in negotiating technical requirements with touring shows including the development of technical budgets for each performance.
+ Communicates with artist production team, professional sound/light companies, and local organizers in advance to establish all technical needs of the artist and event.
+ Organizes and assists in the load-in and load-out of all events at the theatre, including acquiring the necessary staff (stagehands, lighting/sound techs, etc.), staging, and technical equipment required for each event.
+ Maintains a physical presence at the theatre for all theatre events and all rentals unless alternate arrangements are made with the Plaza Director.
+ Supervises and oversees in-house stage lighting and sound equipment, other house equipment, and security systems.
+ Works with Plaza Director on ordering and maintaining technical supplies as needed
+ Maintains a working knowledge of available equipment which may be obtained and/or purchased for the theatre so as to keep a high quality, up-to-date facility.
+ Maintains the orderly use of the stage and facility storage.
+ Trains and supervises technical personnel and volunteers.
+ Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
Training and Experience
+ Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an equivalent GED certificate, supported by one (1) to three (3) years of responsible experience in an entertainment/theatre venue.
+ Candidate with demonstrated abilities in theatre technology, technical/stage/sound/rigging systems is preferred.
Special Requirements
+ Must be able to work a varied schedule.
+ Ability to successfully complete background and drug screenings.
+ Must possess or be able to achieve Server Training in Alcohol Regulations (STAR) certification within 30 days of initial hire.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Working knowledge of modern theatrical lighting, sound, rigging, and staging systems.
+ Working knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and techniques, including computer software use.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
