Technical Director
Job Title: Technical Director Job Description As a Technical Director, you will be responsible for directing the development of projects primarily related to new artificial intelligence products within the realms of image processing, computer vision, machine learning (ML), and autonomy. You will design, architect, and build solutions for a new software platform while leading a high-performing team to deliver and execute customer requirements. This role is highly hands-on with significant technical leadership responsibilities. Responsibilities + Direct and manage internal and external teams in the execution of advanced development programs in the areas of AI-based detection and classification systems. + Provide subject matter expertise in autonomy, image processing, and their integration with advanced AI systems. + Design and architect new image processing and autonomous solutions to support advanced AI products. + Collaborate with other subject matter experts and technical directors to design and architect a comprehensive AI software stack. + Interface with customers as a subject matter expert. + Responsible for algorithm design and development, including performance assessments using theoretical and real-world data. + Work with software engineers to translate AI, ML, and autonomy algorithms into real-time embedded code. + Ensure quality assurance processes are accurate and reliable. + Collaborate with the Quality team on testing and validation activities to maintain high-quality standards. + Address ethical considerations and biases in AI algorithms. + Ensure AI systems comply with relevant regulations and industry standards, promoting responsible AI practices. + Prepare detailed technical documentation, reports, and presentations for stakeholders. + Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders. + Other duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with demonstrated experience in AI, ML, autonomy, or equivalent. Ph.D. preferred. + Demonstrated experience leading internal teams and managing external suppliers to execute complex advanced research and development projects. + Relevant experience in areas such as machine learning, computer vision, classifiers, autonomous robotics, unmanned air systems, image processing, machine vision, digital signal processing, image tracking and estimation, and cybersecurity as it relates to deployed robotics. + Experience with simulation, error modeling, and Monte Carlo analysis for capability development. + Proficiency in C++. + Experience implementing fielded software that includes AI components. + Experience in decomposing military requirements into software specifications. + Experience developing software for unmanned systems (preferred). + Experience writing SBIR, STTR, or other DoD proposals (preferred). Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with traditional computer vision products and a combination of the following: machine learning, autonomous robotics, unmanned air systems, image processing, machine vision, digital signal processing, image tracking and estimation, cybersecurity for deployed robotics, algorithms for GPS-denied or communications-degraded environments. + Project management skills and the ability to technically manage the team/project, decompose requirements, and plan completion. + Strong preference for experience in image processing, camera quality/tuning, contrast enhancement, and color correction. + Experience with DO-178 and DOD/Aerospace standards. Work Environment This role requires on-site presence but offers flexibility. You will work with a distributed team and support all time zones within reason.
