ITD is hiring a Technical Engineer 2 located in our headquarters in Boise, Idaho . The incumbent will perform advanced engineering design and analysis and mentor other engineers. This announcement will serve as the assistant hydraulic engineer position in the Bridge Section. The Technical Engineer 2 will serve as a statewide subject matter resource for the Bridge Section. The successful candidate will have superior time management skills, be a self-starter, and have the ability to work well with others of differing viewpoints. Note: Some statewide travel required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Hydraulic Analysis (70%) • Perform bridge hydraulic analyses. • Perform 2D hydraulic modeling. • Perform scour evaluations for replacement and in-service bridges • Provide independent and quality control check of others work. • Coordinate phases of engineering work with team members. • Manage and review hydraulic deliverables completed by consultants. • Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and construction schedules. • Participate in bridge hydraulic site visits as necessary. • Coordinate phases of engineering work with project team members. Mentor (10%) • Assist in identifying bridge hydraulics mentoring needs. • Mentor less experienced ITD staff. • Provide training to ITD staff as needed on AASHTO code changes, policy changes, etc. Assist in the Development of Bridge Policies and Procedures (20%) • Assist in the development and implementation of ITD bridge hydraulics policies and procedures. • Review AASHTO code updates and comment on ITD’s behalf. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS **You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to qualify for this position. Licensure • Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE), or eligibility for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12 • Valid Driver’s license Experience • Coordinating with state and local government operations in one of the specific engineering specialties described below • Evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit • Writing engineering reports and related correspondence • Reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses • Making oral presentations to groups, relative to the merits of engineering applications Desired qualifications • At least two years of experience in bridge hydraulic analysis POST LICENSURE • Experience supporting bridge hydraulics • Good working knowledge of the ITD Bridge Hydraulics Manual • Familiar with SRH-2D/SMS hydraulic modeling • Experience scoping, scheduling, and budgeting projects • Good working knowledge of FHWA Hydraulic Engineering Circulars: HEC-18, HEC-20 & HEC-23 SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION To learn more about the department, please visit the ITD website.
