  About the role:

As a LEU+ Technical Lead Mechanical Automation Engineer you will be the technical steward for manufacturing processes on equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components and other mechanical systems across the project and product life-cycle. This includes development of specifications, functional requirements, designs and schematics, selection of components, engineering/procurement/construction support and installation/commissioning of manufacturing process equipment systems.  You will create detailed specifications, datasheets, equipment lists, functional requirements, 2D and 3D models, asset management protocols, site and factory acceptance criteria, layout drawings, and material requisitions.  You will have leadership qualities. You will oversee the project to be on time and within budget.

You will report to the LEU+ Engineering Manager and be located at Columbia, SC.

  Key Responsibilities:

Develop functional specifications, project procedures, equipment data sheets, system requirements

Specify and evaluate mechanical engineering services for designing manufacturing processing equipment

Be a technical specialist for material handling equipment, robotics and automation, machining, welding, and other specialized mechanical systems to support design and installation to ensure safe and reliable operations

Ensure that all design changes are captured by the change control process

Participate in risk Process Hazards Analysis, HAZOP, and LOPA as equipment and mechanical system subject matter expert

Provide technical input during design phase

Develop specifications and prepare material requisitions for equipment, mechanical systems and other components

Participate in design and engineering reviews

Collaborate with and manage interfaces with other engineering disciplines; process, instrumentation and controls, electrical advise the Engineering Manager of any major slippages and their causes, major technical problems and unresolved differences with other Groups

Ensure that the applicable specifications and standards are applied throughout manufacturing process and mechanical systems delivery to the Project

Help develop equipment qualification test procedures, evaluate test results, and review final reports

Attend site during construction and commissioning phase

Provide mechanical/process engineering technical support

Assist Design and deployment of maintenance programs for manufacturing equipment, including specifying maintenance practices, procedures, test equipment, and frequencies

Take ownership of mechanical and equipment technical queries to ensure satisfactory resolution

Work with vendor/supplier engineering representatives, establish and maintain a project repository of project documents

Deliver documentation that is technically correct to the required standard and schedule

Meet the requirements of the agreed schedule identified within the project plan for the manufacturing equipment and mechanical system deliverables as assigned by the Engineering Manager

Monitor all on site activities including design, installation, commissioning, site acceptance testing (SAT), and factory acceptance testing (FAT)

Engage with any other activities that would be realistically required of the role

  Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or similar field is required

Minimum 10 years of applicable engineering experience required

Previous experience in discrete manufacturing, custom machine build, or nuclear industry

Good working experience electro/mechanical machine functions (motors, gearboxes, servos, sensors, safety devices, conveyors, robots)

Full automation or mechanical system project life cycle experience

Experience in preparation and reviewing full equipment and mechanical system project documentation including functional descriptions, specifications, isometrics, schematics, P&IDs and others

The ability to produce technical reports, and able to explain complex technical manufacturing and automation equipment related issues

The ability and willingness to travel domestic and international to perform vendor evaluations, completing site acceptance tests (SAT) and conduct inspections/audits.  Expected travel less than 20%

The ability to engage with a team of professionals

US Citizenship required; Must live or can relocate near Columbia, SC
