As a LEU+ Industrial HVAC & Utilities Technical Lead Engineer you will be the technical steward for systems to control indoor air quality in manufacturing operations for various purposes, including protecting worker health, worker comfort, maintain product quality, and provide safety and explosion protection. This includes development of specifications, functional requirements, designs and schematics, selection of components, engineering/procurement/construction support and installation/commissioning of industrial HVAC equipment systems. You will create detailed specifications, datasheets, equipment lists, functional requirements, 2D and 3D models, asset management protocols, site and factory acceptance criteria, layout drawings, and material requisitions.  You will be highly motivated, able to work independently, and have demonstrable leadership qualities. You will be confident in your own ability to deliver the project on time and within budget.

 

Your day to day:

 

Develop functional requirements specifications, project procedures, equipment data sheets, system requirements Specify and evaluate engineering services for the design of HVAC and utility equipment Serve as technical specialist for local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems, custom source-capture hoods, critical space pressure control, make-up air heating and air conditioning systems, heat relief systems, pollution control systems, dust control systems, process exhaust, and other mechanical systems to support design and installation to ensure safe and reliable operations Lead design, specification and selection of HVAC and utility systems with a working knowledge of applicable ASME, ASHRAE, and industry codes/standards Ensure that all design changes are captured by the change control process. Participate in risk Process Hazards Analysis, HAZOP, and LOPA as HVAC and utility system subject matter expert Provide technical input during design phase, Develop specifications and prepare material requisitions for equipment, mechanical systems and other components Participate in design and engineering reviews Perform calculations e.g. for equipment sizing, pipe flow and fluid systems, load balancing, duct velocities, etc. Liaise with and manage interfaces with other engineering disciplines; process, instrumentation and controls, electrical, mechanical etc. advise the Engineering Manager of any major slippages and their causes, major technical problems and unresolved differences with other Groups Ensure that the applicable specifications and standards are applied across all aspects of HVAC and utility systems delivery to the Project Assist in the development of equipment qualification test procedures, evaluate test results, and review final reports Attend site during construction and commissioning phase when required. Assist design and deployment of maintenance programs for HVAC and utility equipment including specifying maintenance practices, procedures, test equipment, and frequencies Take ownership of HVAC and Utility technical queries to ensure satisfactory resolution. Interface with vendor/supplier engineering representatives, establish and maintain a project repository of project documents Deliver documentation that is technically correct to the required standard and meet the requirements of the agreed schedule identified within the project plan for the HVAC and utility deliverables as assigned by the Engineering Manager Monitoring of all on site activities including design, installation, commissioning, site acceptance testing (SAT), and factory acceptance testing (FAT) Engage with any other activities that would be realistically required of the role

 

What you need to be successful in this role:

 

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is required Minimum 10 years of applicable engineering experience required Previous experience in specialty chemical, petrochemical, API pharmaceutical, or nuclear industry is highly desired. Working knowledge of particulate and fume separation processes, glove-box and hood applications, HEPA filtration systems, dehumidification for quality control, and clean room type environments Good working experience with ASME, ASHRAE, NFPA Full process or mechanical system project life cycle experience. Experience in preparation and reviewing full equipment and mechanical system project documentation including functional descriptions, specifications, isometrics, equipment sizing, P&IDs and others. The ability to produce technical reports, and able to clearly explain complex technical equipment related issues. The ability and willingness to travel domestic and international to perform vendor evaluations, completing site acceptance tests (SAT) and conduct inspections/audits.  Expected travel less than 20% The ability to engage with, and influence, a team of professionals US Citizenship required; Must live or have ability to relocate near Columbia, SC
