Job title: Technical Manager
BG/BU: AFNA - Amcor Flexibles North America
Location: AF Yuba City

Reports to (Title): General Manager

1. Job Overview
Lead the plant technical department.  Responsible to continuously industrialize new product launches, systematically drive underlying waste and efficiency improvements through an engineering approach, proactively and manage the quality system and quality control of the plant. Manage technical relationships with customers and manage related capital expenditures.

2. Job Dimensions
•    Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Works in conjunction with the EHS Manager to establish and maintain all programs to assure a safe working environment.
•    Performs all elements of supervision over direct reports – performance reviews, hiring, salary administration, training, recognition, discipline, etc.
•    Directs day to day activities and priorities of his staff.

•    Manage industrialization projects to ensure smooth ramp of up new business opportunities.
•    Site administrator of all incoming orders, specs, waivers, and Projects in Amcor Commercialization System. 
•    Administers the product specification system from the creation of new specs in conjunction with Sales and R&D to requesting revisions and /or deviations as required to optimize performance.
•    Supervises internal validations and Design of Experiments to determine key process variables for the manufacturing processes.

•    Identifies, develops, and implements plans for cost reduction, waste reduction, increased throughput, and general process improvement.
•    Leads the standardization efforts for Color Management in printing department.

•    Carries out the necessary actions/steps to ensure new products conform to the Customers manufacturing and quality needs, and that it falls within our manufacturing process capabilities.
•    Maintains overall Quality system/department in the facility by assuring current procedures and practices are appropriate to comply with customer requirements and specifications. Responsible for incoming verification of purchased products, in process inspection and final review of all products.
•    Ensures compliance and monitors resources for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the plant Food Defense and Product Safety systems.
•    Acts as a liaison between Sales, R&D, Manufacturing, and customers, when necessary, in regard to quality expectations, performance at the customer’s facility, and manufacturing process capabilities to ensure all parties are kept well informed and regularly updated.
•    Manages the Corrective Action system by assisting Supply Chain, Customer Service, Customer Focused Quality, and the manufacturing groups in the resolution of quality concerns and complaints.
•    Reviews and monitors the organization’s documentation, policies, and procedures to insure they are accurate and up to date for the facility.

•    Facilitates and enforces all the company policies and procedures as they are outlined and defined.
•    Maintain budget, ensuring appropriate resource levels.

4. Major challenges & complexities
•    Supervision of staff and processes to ensure a smooth and trouble-free scale-up of new business opportunities by ensuring the proper quality program, supervision of production runs, and coordination across the various plant functions.
•    Full scope management of validated products, from BOMs and quality of raw materials, to producing on equipment with necessary process controls and SOPs, to ensure products meet quality requirements and customer specifications.
•    Identify and implement process controls to improve quality consistency and well as sustaining the food safety certifications.
•    Drive waste reduction and throughput improvements through implementation of process engineering methods
•    Measure and drive improvement of CI & quality KPIs
•    Work cross functionally to identify, justify, and implement the capital improvements necessary to drive waste, process, and quality improvements, as well as support new business growth.

6. Qualifications/Requirements
6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge and Experience
•    Minimum 7 years combined experience in technical and managerial roles.
•    Proven team building and organizational development skills.
•    Should be comfortable in a fast-paced, high speed packaging environment and be willing to manage multiple assignments/projects simultaneously.
•    Ability to analytically resolve technical and logistical issues, while working with a diverse team

Education and Certifications 
•    B.S. in Engineering or equivalent field of study 
•    Exposure to ISO and GMPs 
•    Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred.
•    Knowledge of statistical methods for process improvement (i.e., Capability studies, SPC.)
6.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviors

Job Specific skills and abilities 
•    Excellent knowledge of raw materials and processes related to flexible packaging.
•    Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Food, or Personal Care industry experience a plus 
•    AutoCAD and Radius is a plus.

Compensation:

 Starting salary for this position is expected to be between $94,500 to $118,100; however, base pay offered may vary within the full salary range ($94,500-$141,700) depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amcor Flexibles North America (AFNA) offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, 401(k), wellness initiatives, Employee Assistance Program, and more. Annual paid vacation allotment starts at 80 hours for full-time salaried employees, prorated dependent on their start date. AFNA also offers 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
