Position Title: **Technical Manager**
Department: Process Engineering
Reports To: Site Manger
Direct Reports: Process Engineers, Co-Op students
**Objective** :
Provide the necessary technical expertise to support the ongoing operation of existing production processes while also designing, specifying and delivering improvements in technology and quality of new products and processes. Leader in continuous improvement initiatives including improving the cost efficiency, quality and safety of manufacturing. Provide effective management and leadership to process engineering department. Responsible for operation, maintenance, and improvement of the plant OT network (Emerson Delta V DCS).
**Duties and Responsibilities** :
**Process Engineering for Projects (30%):**
+ Perform process design for new processes with particular regard to safety, environmental impact, cost and functionality.
+ Specify process equipment, instrumentation, and automation for new processes or improvements to existing processes
+ Lead commissioning activities for all capital projects
+ Manage all process engineering projects (small capex)
+ Specify and organize necessary plant trials or laboratory experiments to establish optimal process parameters for quality, operating efficiency, capacity, and safety.
+ Carry out a first commercial evaluation of new production processes, in cooperation with production, engineering, and management accounting.
**Department Management (5%):**
+ Lead and direct the work of all other process engineers and ensure development of all reports.
+ Maintain an inventory of projects for co-op students and supervise completion where necessary
**Plant Management Team (10%):**
+ Participate as a member of the site leadership teams including active member of the food safety/defense team, site safety team, and other continuous improvement teams. Provide suggestions during incident investigations and advise on corrective actions
+ Contribute to the procedure development and training of operators, production supervisors, and others as required, particularly in the area of new and modified processes (any MODs).
**Production Support (25%):**
+ Audit existing processes for efficiency
+ Assist production and maintenance in process troubleshooting activities
+ Bring forward proposals for safety, cost, quality, and capacity improvements
+ Help establish manufacturing standards, monitor actual costs and analyze deviations.
**DCS system configuration and management (30%):**
+ Perform DCS configuration for new equipment and instrumentation
+ Maintain the plantwide DCS system in good working order. This includes yearly PM and update activities with the Emerson Local Business Partner as well as longer term projects to keep all hardware and software up to date
+ Collaborate with IT to ensure communication between plant DCS (OT network) and data historian (IT network). Also, implement cybersecurity measures to the OT network in line with global IT standards
+ Remain up to date with new developments applicable to operations, in order to maintain high technological, safety and quality standards.
**Qualifications** :
+ B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
+ Five to ten years in the chemical processing industry.
+ Thorough understanding of process instrumentation, process controls, and process computers.
+ Emerson Delta V and Aspen data historian experience is a plus

**Financial Responsibility** :
No direct financial responsibility, however, will be responsible for the design work and commissioning of individual process units, with a capital value of up to $15 million. Additionally, will be responsible for cost reduction projects associated with $500 million variable costs and $25 million in direct costs.
**PAY & BENEFITS**
The estimated base pay range for this position is: $128,000 - $192,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, qualifications, skills and geographic location. This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive program.
