Job Description

This position is for candidates who have a passion for teaching and mentoring software teams, instilling strong core design and testing concepts, and advising on software architecture. The Technical Manager is a subject matter expert responsible for developing and managing resources working from centers or remotely. The Technical Manager will develop and manage teams skilled in Embedded and Application Software areas, allocate resources to projects based on utilization, and define technology roadmaps for future growth and expansion. This role will serve as an escalation point for technical, customer, and personnel issues that may arise within their assigned competency. The Technical Manager will be responsible for the quality and timeliness of the deliverables for assigned competency and will ensure compliance with established quality processes. The Technical Manager interfaces with customers at multiple levels, including the executive level. Success in this role requires proven technical expertise combined with the ability to build, mentor, and retain teams.

ResponsibilitiesBuild and manage a team dedicated to engineering projects related to embedded software design and development.Lead candidate interviewing, make hiring decisions, and plan team members' career paths for their professional growth and development.Act as a full Software Development Lifecycle Subject Matter Expert to provide leadership, mentorship, and training on best practices for architecture design, coding standards, and testing methods.Assign duties to team members and act as the technical interface to internal and external customers on a project or group of projects.Perform reviews of project work (code, design, etc.) and provide plans to remedy any issues found along with follow-up reviews.Learn new technologies and promote the adoption of new paradigms and frameworks to gain a competitive edge in delivering value to customers.Brainstorm, in real-time during Discovery Calls, to propose solutions to client’s needs.Make informed technical architecture and design recommendations to clients based on intelligent application of available technologies, keeping the client’s business and engineering needs in mind.Analyze business and systems requirements to estimate scope and effort to complete software design, development, and testing tasks.Collaborate with the Project Manager on the quality and timeliness of the deliverables to ensure compliance with Quality Management System processes.Essential SkillsBS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.Experience with the execution of multiple software projects through the full SDLC.Expert in software architecture design, object-oriented design, and software design patterns.Experience creating software engineering process documentation including standards, job aids, checklists, and training.Ability to create supporting documentation such as architecture diagrams, test plans, and root cause analysis reports.Proficient in modern C/C++ for microcontroller embedded software.Proficient with RTOS's such as VxWorks, QNX, FreeRTOS, Micrium etc., and the Linux OS.Experience with common embedded software concepts such as secure bootloaders, serial communication drivers, HW/SW timers, power management, memory management, OTA Upgrade.Experience with common building systems protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, DALI BLE, Wi-Fi.Experience with common Industrial protocols such as Profinet, EtherCAT, IO-Link, HART, CANOPEN.Experience with Agile Scrum development methodologies and common workflow tools: GIT, Jira, etc.5 years of experience managing engineering teams including training, development, mentorship, day-to-day responsibilities, conflict resolution, clarification of requirements, design paradigms, and architecture.Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills, and the ability to conduct meetings with high-level decision-makers and internal partners across globally distributed cross-functional teams in a virtual environment.Experience interviewing and hiring engineers with a track record of resource retention.Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing tech landscape, keeping up-to-date with best practices and evolving industry trends and technologies.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with model-based design using Simulink.Experience with the QT/QML UI framework.Knowledge of Python for test automation.Knowledge of Yocto System.Industry experience within Building systems and automation, industrial automation, power generation, energy storage, or high-power products.Experience designing and developing software for IoT devices.Work Environment

The work environment includes managing and collaborating with teams both in-person and remotely. The role involves interfacing with customers at multiple levels, including executive levels, and working with modern software development tools and technologies. The dress code is business casual.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $120000.00
