Job SummaryThe Technical Manager – Strategic Markets will play a critical role in enhancing the Company’s long term growth trajectory by exploring and leading the implementation of capital business development sales strategies that address complex business opportunities and strengthen the Company’s sustainability, market-share, and new technologies (i.e.: RNG, CHP, CNG, LNG, NGV, hydrogen, fuel cells, desiccant dehumidification and micro-turbines) initiatives.
Additionally, the Technical Manager – Strategic Markets will coordinate training and act as the primary technical resource for company sales staff, helping to bridge the technical application gap between industry leaders. This includes, but is not limited to, organizing workshops and conducting hands-on coaching on technical issues, leading webinars, and developing technical resource materials. The Technical Manager – Strategic Markets will also act as the company’s technical resource at association events, functions, and conferences, (i.e.: GTI, AGA and ESC) where they’ll gather information on industry trends and provide feedback to their colleagues. This position will also represent UGI as a technical expert on industry organization committees.
Further, the Technical Manager – Strategic Markets will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and working with the Marketing team to design focused go-to-market plans, while maintaining metrics and KPIs relative to the above technologies and performance of the Sales team.
Duties and Responsibilities Act as the lead in evaluating existing and potential markets to develop, recommend, and implement capital growth opportunities with an emphasis on new technologies, across the UGI Service Territory; this includes gathering technical specifications, best practices, and evaluating feasibility with the use of complex financial and data models, while managing stakeholder expectations. Coordinate all cross-departmental activities leading to the successful completion of projects for both new and existing customers including selection of contractors, formalizing engineering services agreements and cost estimates, project schedule and budgeting, design, testing, and execution. Cultivate relationships with energy industry professionals and act as the UGI technical resource for relevant committees such as GTI (Gas Technology Institute), the Energy Solutions Center (ESC), Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), American Gas Association (AGA), and other industry-centered organizations, as needed. Initiate and manage outreach programs targeting technology and solutions vendors, architects, engineers and other equipment specifiers, providing regular technical innovation updates to the Marketing & Sales teams. Coordinate input from growth engineering and operations, as appropriate. Act as the primary technical advisor, on behalf of UGI, across all new technology stakeholders (manufacturers, vendors/distributors, grant writers, and investors). Establish relationships with stakeholders, then build and maintain a program to create a link with UGI prospects and existing customers, facilitating go-to-market strategies, pilots, and new installations across the service territory. Develop and maintain robust metrics tracking and benchmarking analyses, including monthly reports to highlight strategic market activities, projects and industry advances. Manage a database for technical projects including, but not limited to CHP, CNG and RNG applications and report out on this tracking in support of PA PUC filings, base rate case proceedings, and other ad hoc reports, as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge and experience with gas technologies (Engines, Chillers, CHP, CNG, RNG), equipment, combustion fundamentals, and energy conservation measures. Highly motivated to learn with the ability to expand skillset and work independently. Strong regulated distribution company business acumen. Strong analytical skills with the ability to recognize and apply statistical models. Innovative in finding solutions to operational and technical problems. Highly developed communication and presentation skills, both written and oral. Education and Experience Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or other related concentration preferred; Master of Science or MBA (Preferred). Eight or more years' related industry or technical experience preferred.
