The scope of this position involves leading a team to perform all aspects of product and process testing. This includes planning, execution, analysis and documentation of tests assigned. The primary measure of this position is the ability to plan & conduct tests that can be appropriately used to demonstrate the effectiveness of product and process designs in meeting customer requirements. This requires an ability to create logical and empirical linkages between real-world conditions and the controlled conditions created in the Test Lab. Technical familiarity with the HVAC & Transport Refrigeration industry is a plus.
This role will focus on system-level testing of our TRANE & Thermo King products. Product evaluations focus on areas of Refrigeration, Controls, Electrical and Mechanical (including airflow) performance. Need the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams spread across multiple geographical regions. This requires strong project planning/management and organizational skills.
Core Job Responsibilities:
Design and development of test infrastructure for HVAC products and components. The incumbent will need to handle the operation of the test lab infrastructure including breakdown, maintenance, calibration of sensors, data acquisition system etc. Provide coaching and direction to Test Technicians to meet testing deliverables. Review data and write test reports for engineering, summarizing the outcome of testing results. Establish and maintain standard operating procedure, documentation and metrics appropriate for the test lab. Maintain the integrity of engineering systems, encouraging adherence and creating standard work. Perform advanced engineering support functions, including, but not limited to, DFMEA (Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis) and DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report) in collaboration with engineering project teams. Maintain awareness of industry standards and best practices, particularly technology and safety. Participate and prepare for monthly global lab council meetings. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in alignment with productivity and sustainability goals of the organization Share best practices, success stories and knowledge with peers and stakeholders Recognize future testing needs and drive strategies and improvement projects accordingly.
Key Competencies:
Hands-on experience in instrumentation, data acquisition, temperature, flow rate and pressure drop measurements and energy balance calculations. Ability to operate and handle thermocouples, flowmeters, pressure transducers, power meters, and anemometers. The ability to handle vibration and acoustic measurement devices would be added advantage Strong technical expertise with a good understanding of the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering Project management and refrigeration experience are preferred. Ability to post-process the test data, analyze and infer Understanding and knowledge of ASHRAE and/or AHRI standards, Certifications focused on refrigeration system testing will be an added advantage
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and at least five years of engineering work experience, including at least two years in conducting refrigeration systems or sub-components experiments.
