Job summary – What to expect: 

We have a position for Technical Operator at Speedwell Close working on My Day lenses. In this role you will perform a range of manufacturing duties to ensure we are maximising the performance of equipment relating to the contact lens manufacturing process in accordance with related procedures, and Health and Safety guidelines. 

You will be responsible for the production of contact lenses through managing and maintaining exceptional module performance to achieve the required quality, yield and volumes in a safe working practise. Use systems which provide module performance data over specific timescales and diagnose ongoing performance related issues and resolve or escalate.   

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

Health & Safety (H&S) & Compliance  Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Follow standard operating procedures to operate various pieces of manufacturing equipment. Comply with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and cleaning routines for all operating equipment. Conducting quality control checks and timely review of production statistics to ensure product compliance throughout the process.

 

Communication  Document and record module performance on daily handovers. Attend meetings and trainings programmes as required. Communicate findings related to underperformance and improvements.

 

Process & Performance  Maximising the performance of all equipment relating to the contact lens manufacturing process, in accordance with related procedures and Health and Safety Guidelines. Monitoring and adjust equipment and process conditions to ensure that ‘right first time’ quality is achieved, and non-conformities are reported. Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance in line with the Technical Operator role. Participate in and lead Continuous Improvement initiatives based on root causes in order to improve performance and reduce quality loss and improve H&S approach. Troubleshoot and diagnose performance related equipment issues which cause loss in yield or volume using systems such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Participate in regular yield meetings by providing data related to dry line and cavity performance and acting to improve. Perform batch changeovers and end of run clean down including disassembly and reassembly of necessary equipment whilst maintaining batch integrity. Be responsible for initiating and executing all required Out of Control Action Plan’s (OCAP’s) and documentation where required.

 

Teamwork  Liaise with Production Engineering, Maintenance, and other support departments to form effective communication and working practices.  Always promote an environment of teamwork. Assists in training new employees when required.

 

Operational / Business Unit Housekeeping Perform all duties and responsibilities required of the Production Operator role as and when required. Basic cleaning and maintenance of machinery in accordance with SOP’s.  Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

 

Work Environment:

The post works within a demanding, yet informal, English speaking inclusive environment where there is an ongoing expectation and responsibility to maximise productivity time and productivity levels to ensure targets are met The immediate work area is open plan with lots of moving equipment with team members in close proximity. Controlled manufacturing environment with a clean room area with required gowning procedures e.g. all hair covered, no make-up and no heels. The work, typically carried out over a 12-hour shift is physically demanding and a significant proportion of the shift will require the employee to stand and be active. Some of our work areas have a high level of noise.  Where this is above prescribed limits, PPE is supplied and must be worn at all times. In some roles you may be required to handle chemicals.  Full PPE and training will be provided to those who will do so. Will be required to undergo annual surveillance health checks.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has strong communication skills and good organisational skills for support and effective interaction across departments. Also, the successful candidate will be able to interpret and analyse data and also possess good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Experience & Education:

Required

High degree of Verbal, Numerical and Mechanical reasoning ability. A high standard of written and spoken English. Experience in the use of handling handheld tools. 

 

Preferred

Prior experience of working in a Technical role and/or relevant Technical Qualifications would be advantageous. Ideally one year’s experience of working in a result driven manufacturing environment. Experience within a high-volume manufacturing area would be advantageous.
