The Technical Packaging Manager will lead strategic development of packaging solutions across a diverse portfolio of packaging formats and material structures. This role is tasked with identifying significant cost and sustainability opportunities in packaging through design, form, fit and function. This position can be performed remotely with frequent travel to Beloit, WI and Kerry and Supplier manufacturing sites as needed. This role requires strong technical knowledge of both rigid and flexible plastic and paper packaging.

Key responsibilities Drive Top-Line Growth: Collaborate with business partners to enable speed-to-market solutions that align with business objectives and packaging innovations. Strategic Insights & Solutions: Provide cutting-edge packaging insights, leveraging industry trends, new materials, and technologies to delight customers and enhance brand identity. Lead Packaging Qualifications: Oversee packaging qualification through design protocols, testing, and final authorization, ensuring the packaging is technically sound, sustainable, and functional. Collaborative Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve packaging issues for both new and existing products, offering cost-effective, sustainable solutions. Innovative Packaging Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, R&D, Operations) to ensure that packaging designs are both functional and aesthetically appealing, in line with consumer needs and brand expectations. Technical Expertise & Engineering: Lead the development and transformation of packaging materials and designs by selecting appropriate materials, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Sustainability Leadership: Identify and implement sustainable packaging alternatives, influencing internal and external stakeholders to meet company sustainability initiatives. R&D Coordination: Drive research and development projects to discover new packaging materials and processes, enhancing product performance and driving innovation in sustainable practices. Cost Optimization: Facilitate technical qualifications that optimize cost through value engineering, "design to value" initiatives, and the build-out of should-cost modeling across the packaging portfolio. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain up-to-date technical data sheets and ensure packaging meets all regulatory and compliance requirements.   Qualifications and skills Experience: 8+ years of technical packaging experience, preferably within the food industry. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or a related field (MBA or MS preferred). Travel: Must be able to travel within the US and Canada up to 30% of the time. Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging, including packaging technology, manufacturing processes, and equipment. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong communication skills with the ability to work with multiple functions (Procurement, Marketing, R&D) across the organization and with external suppliers. Problem-Solving: Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with experience in procurement or supply chain management being a plus. Adaptability: Ability to comply with and adapt quickly to new processes within the organization.
