ABOUT THE JOB

We’re looking for a Technical Writer – Level 1, to join our Technical Writing team. OneStream contains complex OLAP, multi-dimensional, multi-server, multi-threading, web, and SQL technologies and is specifically designed to solve problems for the Office of the CFO at large corporations. Technical Writers review new features and solutions with our Product Management, Development, and QA teams to create customer-facing content including user guides, design guides, installation instructions, release notes, code snippets, and videos. As a Technical Writer’s experience progresses over time, they can look to progress to a Level 2 Technical Writer position, subject to meeting the requirements of our competency framework.

This position requires a mix of technical skills, writing skills, content development skills, and creativity. In this role, you will utilize your unique skills and talents to design and create engaging and effective technical content. 

To succeed in this role, you must be a self-starter, accountable, driven, ethical, hard-working, personable, and persistent. You must be effective working independently and with a team.

You do not need to be an expert in financial reporting and budgeting systems, databases, and programming languages, but exposure to these areas is expected.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Work with Product Owners and Scrum team members to capture product capabilities in task-based documentation. Convey complex technical ideas to a potentially non-technical audience. Provide deliverables – user guides, release notes, etc. – for major and minor software releases. Ensure content is technically and grammatically accurate by collaborating with subject-matter experts and getting input from peer reviewers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gain an understanding of upcoming product features, enhancements, and changes. Learn and understand department processes, standards, and brand guidelines for all technical content and projects.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Formal Education and Certification

BA/BS Degree in English, Technical Communications, Technical Writing, Communications, or Journalism.

Knowledge and Experience: 

3+ years of relevant experience writing technical, customer-facing material. Experience writing, editing, and proofreading technical content.

Preferred Experience:

Experience creating technical content using MadCap Flare or equivalent tools. Experience creating and editing videos with tools such as Camtasia. Proficient Microsoft Office user. Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders on different teams and management levels. Understanding of industry standards and best practices such as single sourcing, XML, and content management. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Jira, and Atlassian Confluence. Experience with OneStream or equivalent CPM software. Exposure to Information Technology, Accounting, or Finance.
