Technical Writer
Position Description:

CGI Federal is a dynamic and forward-thinking company specializing in end-to-end consulting services for the Federal Government. We take pride in building high-quality, scalable software, and we are looking for talented individuals to join our team. As we continue to grow, we seek a skilled Technical Writer to help document our products and ensure our end users can effectively use our software. We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Mid-Level Technical Writer to produce clear, concise, and accurate documentation for our software applications. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of complex technical concepts and the ability to translate them into clear, user-friendly documentation. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a variety of documentation for both internal stakeholders and external customers. This includes user manuals, Operation manual, API documentation, release notes, training materials, and system specifications.
This position can be located remotely anywhere in the U.S.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Create, maintain, and update comprehensive software documentation including user guides, API documentation, system manuals, technical specifications, and system operations guides.
• Work closely with engineers, developers, and product managers to translate technical information into user-friendly content for a range of audiences, including non-technical users and developers.
• Analyze and understand complex software products and features to effectively communicate functionality through documentation.
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of all technical content by conducting thorough reviews and adhering to style guides and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information, clarify technical details, and stay up to date on new features and releases.
• Contribute to content strategy, proposing improvements to documentation processes, tools, and structure to better meet user needs.
• Utilize tools like Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, or other authoring software to create

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience as a Technical Writer, with a strong focus on documenting software and/or technology products.
• Proficient in creating technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Familiarity with API documentation tools like Swagger, Postman, or similar.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to simplify complex information.
• Knowledge of software development concepts, such as Agile, APIs, version control, and programming fundamentals.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 2-5 years of experience as a Technical Writer in a software or technology company.
• Strong Writing Skills: Excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading
Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
• Experience documenting SaaS applications, APIs, or complex enterprise software systems.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git or GitHub.
• Experience in writing online help systems and knowledge base articles.
• Basic understanding of programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C#) to communicate effectively with software developers.
• Experience with graphic editing tools like Adobe Illustrator or Visio for creating diagrams or workflows.
• Experience writing documentation for APIs, SDKs, and other developer-oriented materials.
CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and license and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $57,100.00 - $121,900.00.
