Technical Writer
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Writer to join our team and work with various technical teams and program management to develop, write, and edit technical documents for large-scale government programs. As a Technical Writer, you will collaborate and work closely with our training team as well as our technical subject matter experts to plan, organize, research, write, edit, format, and produce complex technical, administrative and training documents (e.g., policies & procedures, directives, technical architectural design, reports, hardware and software documentation) for internal and external audiences, using a variety of content delivery tools. This position includes up to 25% travel in and around the Maryland, Virginia, and DC area.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Program Manager to escalate issues, review workload, and provide suggestions for continuous improvement to process or writing/editing tools or resources
- Research highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiples sources, and write technical content that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers
- Prepare various documentation to effectively communicate complex and technical information to non-technical and senior leader stakeholders
- Manage and coordinate data calls to and from Subject Matter Experts, internal contributors, or subcontractors
- Review and edit technical information prepared by other team members for compliance, quality, accuracy, clarity, and content
- Create and maintain the information architecture
- Work with team Videographer in the development of scripts and videos
- Assist Training Developer in the development of written training aids
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Technical Writing or related discipline or applicable work experience.
- Six years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the government sector.
- Secret security clearance or eligible to obtain.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Smart Sheets, and Visio) and other content delivery tools.
- Expertise in assessing technical information and writing content suited to wide audiences.
- Advanced knowledge in technical communication, including various reports, presentations and/or academic practices and standards.
- Knowledge of the end-to-end documentation process, from intake to printed and electronic output and distribution.
