Job Description
As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating end-user documentation for cloud-based software applications. This includes user guides, getting started guides, support FAQs, and reference materials. You will use information architecture principles to design online documentation that meets the needs of multiple audiences at various stages in their learning cycle, all from a single content repository. Your goal is to clearly communicate how to accomplish user tasks rather than just explaining the user interface. Through research and hands-on learning, you will become an expert on our products and methodologies.
ResponsibilitiesWrite end-user documentation (user guides, getting started guides, support FAQs, reference material) for cloud-based software applications.Use information architecture principles to design online documentation that meets the needs of multiple audiences at various stages in the learning cycle using a single content repository.Clearly communicate how to accomplish user tasks, rather than how to use the user interface.Through research and hands-on learning, become an expert on our products and methodologies.Work with Product, Support, and other internal teams to understand customer needs and create content that allows users to be self-sufficient.Design graphics that convey technical concepts and enhance the written documentation.Create annotated screen shots to illustrate procedures.Interview subject matter experts to learn how product features work and understand their benefits to users.Experiment with software to learn how it functions from an end-user point of view.Use MadCap Flare to build a content repository and generate multiple types of output, including frameless HTML5 and PDF for different audiences.Test Flare output in the QA and staging environments to ensure dynamic content is functioning properly, verify the integration between the help system and the product is working as expected, and validate the information visible to different user types.Essential Skills3+ years working on software documentation projects for a non-technical audience.Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in a way that non-technical people can understand.Confident self-starter, pro-active in asking questions and resolving issues with subject matter experts.User-centric thinker who can anticipate the reader’s concerns and questions about the product.Experience creating documentation for different audiences using a single repository with conditional tags to produce different output.Strong time management skills with the ability to estimate the effort required to complete a task and stay on schedule.Experience with instructional design and an understanding of learning theory.Ability to clearly articulate rationale behind learning design decisions and communicate with stakeholders.A growth mindset with a desire to understand the latest learning design methodologies and trends.Advanced graphics skills (PowerPoint).Experience authoring documentation in MadCap Flare using conditional content.Strong grasp of HTML5/CSS.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience documenting APIs.Experience writing documentation for translation and optimizing documentation projects for translation.Experience with Jira and Confluence.Experience with digital adoption platforms such as WalkMe.Familiarity with the telecom industry.Documentation management experience.Work Environment
This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in the US. You will collaborate with various internal teams and utilize tools such as MadCap Flare, Snagit, PowerPoint, HTML, and CSS to perform your duties.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00
