Summary THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION. THE DUTY LOCATION FOR THIS POSITION IS SEATTLE, WA. About the Position: Serves as a Technical Writer-Editor with the Planning, Environmental and Cultural Resources Branch, writing, editing, reviewing, and publishing documents regarding environmental and engineering planning. Responsibilities Collaborate with subject matter experts to write, review, and edit all technical documents produced by Seattle District’s Planning, Environmental and Cultural Resources Branch for external distribution. Review and edit all documents from technical team members and other contributors for content, organization, accuracy, grammar, consistency, literary quality, and format in accordance with Army regulations and professional standards. Explore a broad range of resources including library research, interviews with subject-matter experts, and team meetings to obtain, analyze, and verify information, manages records, files, and Contracting Officer Representative (COR) files. Provide technical writing and editing assistance across Planning, Programs, and Project Management Division (PPPMD) and other NWS Divisions to improve overall quality and consistency of deliverable products. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications for GS-09 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes editing scientific/technical articles or reports AND using software systems (such as Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat) to organize data and compile documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. This education includes at least 15 semester hours in related fields such as English or communications, and at least one course above the introductory level. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications for GS-11 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent which includes ALL of the following: (1) writing and editing scientific/technical articles and reports; (2) using automated systems to create technical reports; AND (3) reviewing technical documents for such things as content, organization, accuracy, consistency or literary quality. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. This education includes at least 15 semester hours in related fields such as English or communications, and at least one course above the introductory level. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. For the GS-11: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
