Technical Writer/Illustrator
Amentum is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Technical Writer/Illustrator supporting PM Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Program Executive Office Ground Combat Systems (PEO GCS) at or near the Detroit Arsenal. This position is currently onsite (40 hours/week) but could transition to hybrid based on the requirements of the government client. Other duties may be assigned to support client and contract deliverables. Travel may be required but estimated at less than 10%. **Job Duties and Responsibilities:** + Write and update material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance. + Research and study production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail. + Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods. + Review manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service. + Study blueprints, flowcharts, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail. + Organize material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. + Review published materials, recommending revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. + Maintain records and files of work and revisions. + Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. May assist in laying out material for publication. + Arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material. May write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases. + Distill highly technical data and information into accessible and simple language for a variety of audiences, to include end users of complex military systems and projects. + Utilize a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and scheduling tools. + Gather and convert data into a written narrative. + Other duties as assigned. **Required Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s degree in English, business, engineering or other related field and 5+ years of experience with technical writing, illustrating, military or government related duties OR associate’s degree and 7+ years of experience with technical writing, Illustrating, military, or government related duties; 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education. + 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education. + Ability to develop, edit, manipulate illustrations and artwork with Adobe illustrator, Photoshop or comparable software + Must have an active SECRET US Government Clearance. Amentum may be able to sponsor a clearance as part of the onboarding process. Please note US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain an active secret clearance. **Preferred Qualifications:** + General Experience or knowledge in technical manual development specifically in writing and editing US Army Technical Publications (operator and field maintainer technical manuals, or NMWRs). + Solid understanding/experience with Army maintenance structure and AR 40051. + Knowledge of Ground Combat Tactical Weapon systems (Stryker).
