Technician, Composites and TPS (Thermal Protection Systems)

Enterprise Engineering: This role is part of Enterprise Program Management (EPM), where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of materials engineers and technicians you will support our laboratory efforts to provide excellent research, development, and quality assurance testing for various spaceflight systems. You will need to be flexible and eager to learn. The materials that you will help develop will provide essential thermal protection for space vehicles. We seek people who are team players, passionate about space and possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve. 

 

Your primary responsibility will be to support the efforts of our Thermal Protection Systems and Composites laboratories, which will include helping with sample preparation, operating instruments, and interacting with a wide variety of colleagues and customers. You will see this as a career opportunity to gain skills and expertise as a strong laboratory technician. Ability to lead project is a consideration of this position.

Qualifications: 

At least 5 years of laboratory support in a composite environmentRead and interpret engineering drawingsCreate and execute industry standard material allowables testingConduct quality assurance material testing on Process Verification partsDevelop and execute test procedures related to integrated structural verification testsMaterial cure cycle developmentOperate or support specialized equipment such as large vacuum ovens, resin transfer systems, furnaces, inspection cameras, CNC router, saw, and water jetStrong organizational skillsDevelop and execute test procedures and test planes for sub-scale primary   structures jointsExperience in bonding and materials testing including surface prep, primer                 application, mixing and applying silicones/epoxies. Experience in machining/trimming composite and metallic materialsOrder needed materials according to user needs and predetermined budgetAbility to work flexible shifts, some weekendsCommon computer tools – excel, word, and PowerPointGood attention to detailAbility to troubleshoot and perform under critical situationsHands on lab workAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and       contribute to a culture of inclusion.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card        holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired: 

Flight integration Operate, maintain, and manage the schedule of a large high-temperature inert gas/vacuum furnaceExperience with Data Acquisition SystemsComposite prepreg materials and layup schedulesFamiliarity with ASTM standards and various material test protocols A bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or 3 years of experience in the skillAerospace Experience  5-S Experience AS9100


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $29.03-$40.65

Other site ranges may differ
