Position Overview:We are seeking a skilled Fiber Outside Plant (OSP) Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cable and related equipment in outdoor environments. This role requires a strong understanding of fiber optics, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation:Install and splice fiber optic cables in underground and aerial environments.Ensure proper placement and termination of fiber optic cables according to industry standards.Fiber Outages/Maintenance:Respond to and troubleshoot fiber outages quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime.Conduct regular maintenance checks and assessments of fiber optic infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.Project Oversight:Oversee Enterprise and Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) projects, ensuring timely and quality completion.Collaborate with project managers to coordinate installation schedules and resources.Training:Provide training and mentorship to new technicians and contractors on best practices in fiber optic installation and maintenance.Develop training materials and standard operating procedures to enhance team capabilities.Testing & Quality Control:Perform testing on installed fiber optic systems using appropriate equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters).Implement quality control measures to ensure that all work meets industry standards and client expectations.Safety Compliance:Follow all safety regulations and guidelines while performing tasks.Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of tools and equipment.Collaboration:Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to coordinate installations and repairs.Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders regarding project status and any issues that arise.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in fiber optics preferred.Proven experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance.Knowledge of OSP construction practices and standards.Familiarity with splicing techniques and testing equipment.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.Physical Demands:
The Telecommunication Tower Technician role requires that the individual be able to climb and work at heights, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in outdoor environments in all types of weather conditions.
