General Summary
The Technician, OSP, is responsible for locating and marking underground utility lines to prevent damage during construction, utilizing GPR to identify soil conditions, and providing overall support to the fiber construction program. The position works closely with the Construction Manager and Contractors to minimize damage to utilities and ensure all requirements and specifications are met.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Ensures the safety of all crew members, contractors, and the public.
Research utility company, city, and county records to be cognizant of underground facilities in each work area.Individuals must be able to read construction prints and have knowledge of the underground construction/locating processes.Performs pre-construction walkout.Performs site survey to evaluate the best construction method.Operates and maintains surveying and locating equipment.Interprets subsurface information in the field and during post processing.Communicates findings and analysis.Frequent travel may be required.Maintains daily communication with Construction Manager.Produces quality results in an efficient and cost-effective manner.Represents Rise Broadband professionally to satisfy immediate customer needs and foster good customer relations.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with project teams, other internal departments, and the public.Pursues personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role and those of the project team.Works on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and/or beyond regular work hours due to customer or operational demands, as needed. Adheres to all Company standard procedures, policies and safety practices while performing work activities.Other duties as assigned.Job Requirements
Minimum of 3 years’ experience with the locating of underground utilities.Working knowledge of utility line locating equipment. Working knowledge of ground penetrating equipment and processes. Detailed knowledge of the locating and excavating of underground facilities.High School Diploma or equivalent is required.Requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications construction and familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required. Must have good communication skills and a positive demeanor.The ability to effectively communicate with all fellow employees both in written and verbal format.Good understanding of telecom network topology and customer connectivity.Able to effectively oversee multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.Flexible, innovative, and capable of managing multiple projects and responsibilities in extreme time-critical settings.Results focused leadership using energetic and positive communication skills.Natural ability to work with all levels of management, staff, and vendors/contractors.Decisive with a strong attention to detail.Working Conditions
Ability to work outside in all seasons for extended periods of time.Must be able to stand or walk for long periods with repeated lifting (Up to 50 lbs.), kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reachingEmployees may perform duties around energized and de-energized electric lines and equipment and moving mechanical parts. Work may be performed in confined spaces. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt may occur. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.Disclaimer
