Position Description

This position may be located across Division 7 depending on where the successful candidate is located to include Illinois and Iowa.  Monitors and evaluates rotating and reciprocating equipment (2 & 4 cycle internal combustion engines, compressors, fans, pumps, turbines and centrifugal compressors etc.) utilizing specialized electronic analyzing equipment. Examines, analyzes, troubleshoots, and diagnoses equipment for defects in operation. On occasion the Engineering Technician will assist Mechanical Maintenance with troubleshooting and repairs. The Engineering Technician frequently works with Environmental Representatives in scheduling and completing emissions testing. Monitors emission levels and keeps engines and turbines running in compliance with permitted emissions levels. Maintains accurate records of all engine/compressor analysis and emission testing. Calibrates and maintains analytical equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the utilization of engine and compressor analysis equipment, vibration equipment, emission analysis equipment, and borescopes in acquiring equipment dataMust possess and continue to develop skill of analyzing data and developing specific recommendations and corrective actionsSupports analysis and maintenance of plant systems including gas compression equipment, control systems, auxiliary support systems, and ancillary equipmentProvides condition-based corrective action recommendations to resolve operational problems on gas compression equipment and works directly with location personnel to resolve ancillary plant equipment issuesProvides technical assistance in the operations and maintenance of plant equipment and provides training on equipment operations and maintenance policies and proceduresAssists in equipment failure analysis and in the development of standard practices and proceduresConducts portable emissions analysis testing for compliance and assists in scheduling and conducting trailer tests as requiredConducts greenhouse gas and leak surveys using advanced detection and imaging equipmentSupports the identification and prioritization of capital and O&M improvement projectsRegular and predictable attendance

Position Requirements

Education:

Associates degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience

Experience and Knowledge:

Minimum of 3 - years of experience with reciprocating and rotating machinery repair and / or machinery diagnosticsIndividual should possess a thorough understanding of the mechanical aspects of internal combustion engines and gas compression equipment and their support systemsExperience with reciprocating engine condition monitoring systems such as Windrock or similar analysis equipmentThorough knowledge of condition-monitoring and condition-based-maintenance techniquesDemonstrated ability to investigate and troubleshoot vibration problems, with an understanding of spectral analysisDemonstrated experience in using electronic databases as well as storage and archival of electronic dataStrong understanding of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint computer programs along with proprietary analyzer softwareMinimum of 3 years of experience with portable-unit exhaust emissions analysisExcellent planning and organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize assignments according to business needsExcellent written and oral communication skills – proven ability to produce clear, concise written reports, and discuss, review, and present technical informationExcellent team working skills – demonstrated ability to work with operations groups, support groups, and engineering support staffMust be able to work with minimal supervision

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers

Working Conditions:

Required to carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working hours, and non-working hours as neededTravel is required and anticipated up to 40-50% on average, and may occasionally include out-of-town nights and weekend travelThe successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

Compensation:

Pay range: $29.90 - $53.02 per hour. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
