Position Summary
Responsible for the Preventive Maintenance, repair and proper operation of assigned work area. Preventive maintenance and repairs include but not limited to minor electrical, mechanical, cosmetics, nurse call, and rated doors. Assigned area should be kept in a way to promote customer satisfaction and comfort at all times. Repairs all equipment in the shop area to include all equipment and rolling stock. Maintains shop area and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion.

Makes repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to ensure customer satisfaction is not compromised Minor electrical repairs such as: Ballast change out Relamping Replaces light switches Replaces receptacles Familiar with branch circuit’s location Exit light repairs Minor Mechanical/HVAC repairs such as: Unstops clogged drains, commodes Rebuild flush valves Rebuilds medical gas outlets Rebuilds sink faucet Rebuilds mixing valves on tubs/showers Adjust/replace thermostat Replace thru wall unit Clean diffuser Minor cosmetic repairs such as: Patch/touch up wallpaper/paint Replace cove base Replace ceiling tiles Repair vertical blinds Repair casework Room accessories installed properly (towel racks, soap dispensers, shelves, etc.) Nurse call repairs such as: Replaces patient stations/toilet buttons Bed communication, cord replacement Pillow speaker replacement Reset nurse call system Door and accessories repairs such as: Repair/replaces passage sets Repair/replace automatic closures Adjust strike plates and achieve positive latching Adjust fire doors to insure proper closure Repair/replace door hinges Preventive maintenance is performed and documented to ensure that regulatory issues are being adhered to All rated doors in assigned area achieve positive latching (i.e. fire doors, patient room door) Medical gas alarm panels at nurse’s station are checked to ensure audible and visual alarms are operating properly All exit lights in assigned area are operational to help ensure that means of egress is easily identified in the event of an emergency All stained, missing and broken ceiling tiles are replaced daily in assigned area Electrical/mechanical rooms are kept neat and orderly with no storage in assigned area Demonstrates proper uses of PPE and Infection Control Hard hats, safety glasses, and other PPE devices are used as required by departmental policies and per OSHA regulations Special PPE is worn to meet specific need as required by the task being performed Permits are obtained and enforced per hospital policies Disinfect contaminated tools Surrounding areas are cleaned and maintained per hospital policies Follow Isolation Room procedures Follow hand washing policies Demonstrates the ability to repair rolling stock, equipment, etc. found in the shop area Supplies are obtained through proper channels, and keeps supplies and stock neat and orderly Other duties as assigned Must be able to make decisions clearly and quickly. Must be able to withstand many hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting and moving equipment. Manual dexterity, good eye to hand coordination with adequate vision. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Must be able to work as a team member with peers and other departments. Must be able to cope with agitated/hostile customers and respond calmly. Must be able to climb/stand on ladders to work in ceilings. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
