MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under supervision of the Anatomic Pathology Manager, prepares microscopic tissue slides from surgical specimens for diagnostic purposes, ensuring that all specimens are properly and appropriately collected and labeled. Duties include Grossing of surgical specimens, embedding tissue samples, microtomy and slide preparation for routine Histology and Frozen Sectioning. Knowledge of automated Imaging System, automated special staining, Immunohistochemical and In Situ hybridization staining using different staining platforms is required. Other required skills include computer knowledge; the ability to communicate with members of the healthcare team, including excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to maintain established departmental competencies. Actively participates in staff education, training, and competency. Knowledgeable in all CAP/CLIA regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field. Successful completion of Histology Training Program recommended. 1-3 years Anatomic Pathology Laboratory experience preferred.Certification/Licensure:
HTL (ASCP) or equivalent, certified, or eligible required. Certification must be achieved within12 months after hire date.
