Technologist-Surgical I-GI Lab
Summary Assists surgical team during operation/procedure by arranging, managing inventory and maintaining sterile set up for operation, and passes items as needed. Assists in preparation of surgical suite, moving patients, and in cleaning. Provides aid in exposure, homeostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out safe operation with optimal results for the patient. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities + Assists in performance of procedures for the surgical patient in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures. + Assists in providing intraoperative care. + Safely and adequately provides and utilizes equipment and supplies based on patient needs. + Performs activities that demonstrate technical accountability. + Participates in ongoing educational activities. + Completes assigned goals. Requirements, Preferences and Experience Education Minimum: + Holds a current National Certification established by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a surgical technologist + OR + Must demonstrate education and training through one of the following methods under TN Code Ann. 68-57-101(a) + Completion of a CAAHEP accredited program in surgical technology + Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the armed forces, CAAHEP accredited hospital, or CAAHEP accredited ambulatory surgical treatment cancer program + OR + Successfully completed the surgical technologists NBSTSA certifying exam + OR + Grandfathered under TN Code Ann. 68-57-102(a) - Prior to July 1, 2006, was employed for not less than 18 months as a surgical technologist in a hospital, medical office, surgery center, or school; or began training to be a surgical technologist in an accredited surgical technology program. + Please note: Effective July 1, 2013, the State of Tennessee requires surgical technologists to complete 15 CEs annually to remain qualified for employment at BMHCC. Certified surgical technologists are exempt from the new requirement, but they must maintain a current and active national CST certification from NBSTSA. Licensure, Registration, Certification Minimum: BLS certification within 14 days of hire date Special Skills Minimum: Computer literacy.
