The ABS Global Electrification Center, located in Singapore, is spearheading the technology developments towards maritime electrification. Together with the other technology centers in the pacific region and around the world, it supports ABS’ mission of enhancing maritime safety through the development of relevant Classification Rules, Products, and Services, with an focus on the electrification of existing and new assets.
As a member of the Global Electrification Center, you will participate in and lead research and development projects with regional or global clients, with a specialization in battery energy storage systems for maritime applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in battery technology, with experience in the design, development, and optimization of advanced battery systems. This role requires a deep understanding of electrochemistry, materials science, and battery management systems, especially pertaining to the safety-related aspects.
What you will do:
Develop Classification Rules and Requirements for the maritime industry on the adoption of battery energy storage systems. Develop tools and services related to the application of maritime battery systems for ABS internal departments and external clients. Lead joint Research and Development projects with other partners in the field of maritime electrification, especially related to the implementation of new battery energy storage technologies. Solicit and lead consulting projects for clients and government agencies in the field of maritime battery systems. Support ABS technical community on queries regarding maritime batteries. Maintain and demonstrate thought leadership through technical publications, conference presentations, and panel discussions. Participate in related industrial and governmental committees to advocate the safe adoption of battery systems in maritime environments. Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical expertise and support.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of Research and Development experience in the field of battery engineering in industry. Experiences with leading joint Research and Development projects with partners from academia, industry, and governmental agencies. Experiences with technical communications in the form of conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of electrochemistry, battery materials, battery manufacturing, battery management systems, and battery system integration. Experience with lithium-ion, solid-state, or other advanced battery technologies. Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to battery systems. Experience with battery safety design and the prevention of thermal runaway events. Experience with modeling and simulation of battery performance and degradation. Experience with battery testing and characterization techniques. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Excellent technical, interpersonal, communication, and writing skills in English Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.It Would Be Nice If You Had
