Technology Specialist CRP
Overview

Developmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.

Responsibilities Provide technology instruction to all Children’s Residential Programs (CRP) as assigned and scheduled. Develop and implement technology assessments for the individuals in (CRP). Work with the teams to develop and implement technology curriculum for individuals in (CRP). Create data collection methodologies to measure individual success and monitor progress (i.e: desensitization programs). Manage technology materials and equipment and ensure that materials and equipment are available as necessary, cleaned, repaired, and properly used. Electronic Health Records (EHR) Super User: establishing user accounts which includes setting user IDs, security and passwords, password reset,  providing support to staff, working with the vendor, running audit reports, attending webinars and trainings provided by the vendor based on OPWDD regulatory changes. Ensure programs have back-up system in place for downtime of EHR. Work with teams using technology to reduce paper systems to collect data on desensitization projects and recreational use for individuals. Work with teams to increase the use of Smart Home technology in order to increase independence, while ensuring regulatory compliance. Work with the teams, including the Speech Pathologist and Behavior Specialist, on incorporation of technology into programming and service delivery. Complete all required trainings and in-services. Lead and manage DDI CRP related technology projects as requested. Ex; virtual tech/smart technology Work with the Fundraising and Development Team to pursue grants and funding for technology and special projects within Children’s Residential Services. Present with teams at conferences on the use of technology in supporting individuals in Children’s Residences. Serve on the agency IT Committee and Agency Portal Committee. Essential Functions Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the children i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs Must be able to lift/move 20 lbs (mats) Must be able to run after student up to 500 feet Must be able to run to a classroom in need up to 500 feet Must be able to kneel, twist and bend Must be able to respond to fire alarms Qualifications Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Special Education, Speech, or a related field. Must be fluent in programming a range of devices: i.e:  iTouch, iPad and similar devices; PowerPoint, virtual reality technology, game technology, and instructional technology.   Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Ability to work with developmentally disabled individuals. Must possess good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must possess experience in technology-based instruction and be fully versed in using tools and equipment associated with said instruction (systems, devices, computers, etc.) Must have reliable transportation for use to travel between sites.
