Summary About the Position: This is a permanent Telecommunications Specialist position with US Army Central Command (ARCENT) located on Shaw AFB, SC. Certain monetary and non-monetary incentives MAY be offered if deemed in the best interest of the U.S. Government and at organizational and managerial discretion. Responsibilities Serves as Telecommunications Specialist supporting United States Army Central Electromagnetic Frequency Spectrum Manager. Responsible for operation of radios to include frequency assignment, control of operating frequencies, and allocating frequencies for units under United States Central (USARCENT) operational control. Formulate electromagnetic frequency spectrum management policy in support of the USARCENT operations. Review and recommend a command position on Department of Defense, Joint Staff, and Department of the Army telecommunication and spectrum management policies and studies. Serves as a radio frequency spectrum planner in continually developing, reviewing, and revising CENTCOM and USARCENT contingency plans. Maintains continual awareness of higher technological advances in the expanding communications field. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience which includes 1) planning, directing, and advising on telecommunications operating techniques, programs, and requirements; 2) implementing general communication policies, regulations, technology and programs; 3) formulating electromagnetic frequency spectrum management policy in support of the USARCENT operations; and 4) managing radio control frequency allocations to ensure compatible operation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower grade level (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Technical Problem Solving Telecommunications Requirements Analysis Telecommunications Security Management Telecommunications System Maintenance Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
