**TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN II**
**10/23/24** **A37**
This is a fully onsite position.
**Responsibilities:**
Technicians at this level independently perform the duties described in the lower level; in addition, they independently develop installation instructions and procedures. These higher-level assignments normally require study and analysis of procedures, layouts, precedents and several possible course of action. Assignments may include quality control and provision of direction or technical assistance to other workers.
In assigning work to the Principal Telecommunications Technicians, the supervisor outlines system requirements and provides general instructions as to scope objectives time limitations, and priorities. The technician will collaborate with the supervisor for consultation and advice where significant deviations from standard principles and practices must be made.
**Characteristic Duties:**
In addition to the duties performed by the Telecommunications Technician I, employees assigned to the Telecommunications Technician II classification:
**Voice**
+ Using CS2100 Map Activity Position (MAP) accounts log into the CS21100 and compare new and installed lines for proper data fill (enabled features) against TMIS records.
+ Using MAP run diagnostics on specific telephone lines
+ Using Cisco Call Manager compare new and installed lines for proper data fill (enabled features) against TMIS records.
+ 24X7 on-call response within 30 minutes of notification for after-hours troubles.
**Data**
+ Test and repair data connections reported as defective; replace defective switching components as necessary.
+ 24X7 on-call response within 30 minutes of notification for after-hours troubles.
+ Assign and document IP addresses in NETDB as required.
+ Use NETDB to identify IP addressing problems.
+ Diagnose physical and logical data network problems with a datalink analyzer.
**Card System**
+ Install and test all new card reader and cash register locations.
+ Install and test new door access readers
+ Update TMIS documentation when defective hardware has been replaced.
+ 24X7 on-call response within 30 minutes of notification for after-hours troubles.
**Special Circuits**
+ Assist client in connecting their equipment
+ Provide first level maintenance response for all special circuit problems
+ Update TMIS documentation on device addressing when defective hardware has been replaced.
+ 24X7 on-call response within 30 minutes of notification for after-hours troubles
**Qualifications:**
+ In addition to the qualifications required for Telecommunications Technician I, Telecommunications Technician II must have:
+ Knowledge of basic AC and DC circuit theory, including the understanding and use of Ohm’s law and the meaning of various electrical quantities
+ A thorough working knowledge of various tools required for installation and maintenance
+ Ability to fault locate defects in existing interbuilding/intrabuilding telecommunication facilities employing analysis along with the results obtained from the test equipment
+ Ability to troubleshoot and isolate wiring and device failures and implement a solution
+ Understand testing apparatus to resolve data and network applications
+ A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record at all times
+ Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 70 lbs. required
+ High School diploma or GED
**Certifications desired:**
+ **Cisco VoIP**
+ Fiber: Fluke, Light Brigade or Corning
+ BICSI Certification: Installer Level II or higher
+ Leviton and Systemax Contractor Connector Certification
+ Network training
+ AS degree
_The expected pay range for this position is $50.20 (Step 11) to $60.72 (Step 20) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position._
